Xavier Worthy 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Date:

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Xavier Worthy 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Xavier Worthy Background

Position: Wide Receiver

School: Texas

Size: 6-foot-1, 172 pounds

Class: Junior

2023 stats: 75 receptions, 1,014 receiving yards, 13.5 yards per catch, 5 touchdown catches, 4 rushes, 35 rushing yards

Worthy had a highly productive college career with the Texas Longhorns over three years. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a five-star recruit out of California, Worthy signed with Texas in the class of 2021. He was a great receiver from the start with 62 receptions for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman. While he played well, Texas went 5-7 that season. In 2022, Worthy had 60 catches for 760 yards and nine touchdowns. His play helped the Longhorns improve to an 8-5 record. For the 2023 season, Worthy registered 75 catches for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns. He helped the Longhorns make the College Football Playoff in 2023.

Following the College Football Playoff, Worthy declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is a projected first or second-round pick.

Xavier Worthy Strengths

Worthy is a great athlete. He has elite speed as a former track athlete. To go with his speed, he has good acceleration and agility, as he can change directions very suddenly. He can stretch the field vertically and shows good deep ball tracking. Worthy has good body control and can move his body to make catches against tough coverage.

He is a great route-runner, who had a diversified route tree at Texas. Worthy has good releases at the line of scrimmage to start his route running. Once he gets to the break in his route, he can stop and go quickly, changing direction seamlessly. His speed and agility helps him create separation. He can also find soft spots in zone coverage to get open.

His ability to run after the catch is among the best in the class. He has good field vision and runs to open space. His speed helps him create big plays, but he is also elusive enough to make defenders miss. Texas used him on a lot of screens and jet sweeps to get the ball in his hands. This gave him a lot of time to run after the catch and show his ability to pick up big yardage. He was also used as a returner because of this skill.

Xavier Worthy Weaknesses

Worthy is a smaller receiver. He has good height at 6-foot-1, but weighed in at only 172 pounds. To be more effective against physical coverage, he will need to add strength, while also maintaining his speed. His frame doesn’t look like it is filled out and with more play strength, he can be a more complete receiver.

His hands are solid, but there are some circumstances where he doesn’t haul in everything thrown his way. Worthy showed some trouble when balls were thrown off his frame. He struggled with contested catches. Adding strength and making sure he maintains focus throughout the rep can help him make some of the tougher catches.

With his size, Worthy won’t be a significant run blocker in the NFL. He can add weight to help, but he also needs to block with more tenacity. This won’t matter for a lot of NFL teams, but some ask their receivers to block more than others.
