A brand new game mode is headed to Wild Rift. Likely serving as a part of the Soul Fighter event, which spans across all of Runeterra, the Wild Rift new game mode allows players to duel one versus one.

The previous game 1v1 game mode occurred on Howling Abyss and was therefore randomly formatted. Unlike the previous 1v1 iteration, it appears this new game mode takes place on a more summoner’s rift-like format. In addition, players have the opportunity to select their champions themselves.
That’s right, champions, plural. According to the source, “Each player will select three champions before entering combat, which can be seamlessly swapped between when off cooldown.”
This creates a large amount of play variety and synergy, playing almost like a fighting game with a tag out system. It’s definitely the most experimental game mode releasing in Wild Rift.
The first player to reach four kills wins. As of now, only a small teaser for the brand new game mode revealed during the Soul Fighter trailer.
Since the game mode seems to be part of the Soul Fighter event, it’ll likely debut when Soul Fighter begins. And the Soul Fighter event release date is July 20, which was officially confirmed by Riot in their blog post. This is a universal release date for the event itself, which alligns perfectly with Nilah’s release in Wild Rift.

Therefore, the Wild Rift Tag Duel game mode releases on July 20, assuming release trends and timings all line up. Of course, there’s a possibility the game mode ships at a different time due to trouble shooting and developmental issues — but for now, it’s relatively safe to treat the release date as definitive.
This rings especially true because Patch 4.3 begins on that date as well, therefore Riot will likely want to start the beginning of a big patch off with a bang.
