What Are Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Sales Numbers?

Date:

As usual, the Pokemon franchise is reaping high sales numbers. Despite the game getting some of the lowest critic scores in the franchise, it has not stopped the fans from coveting copies from the shelves. This piece will go over how good or bad Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sales numbers are.

Update**

According to Serebii.net, Scarlet and Violed have sold 10 Million Copies.

Despite Their Stumbling, Generation 9 is Off to a Great Start

Despite the rough reception from critics, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s popularity has prevailed thanks to fans. According to sources such as Niche Games, Scarlet and Violet accrued the highest number of pre-orders in the franchise. CEO Takahito Ushinomiya has stated that the games have pulled more pre-order shipments than any other entry since Red and Blue and have shipped 440 million Pokemon-related units since its founding.

According to Techgenyz, Scarlet and Violet also sold 25% more copies in their first week than Pokémon Sword and Shield. It also sold 70% more copies than BDSP and 56% more than Pokémon Legends: Arceus. These are impressive numbers, especially in the UK–where Scarlet and Violet became the second biggest-selling title for an opening week. It is also the biggest boxed launch sale of the year.

Out of the two versions, Pokemon Violet remains the most popular among fans. Dividing the sales profits, Violet accounted for 52% of sales. Scarlet accounted for 42% and the double pack accounted for 6%. Despite the polarizing attitudes, it is heartwarming for these games to be so loved by fans despite critical panning.

However, Is This Good Long Term?

Despite multiple fans being happy with the game, is the success of these titles, sales-wise, a good thing? This is what a big chunk of the community is wondering after receiving the game in such a bugged state. The sales numbers do not invalidate the complaints about graphical and performance issues.

Money talks and these numbers are only going to tell GameFreak and the Pokemon Company that despite the final products having flaws, the fans will still purchase them. Fans have been saying this since Sword and Shield, but seeing this actually be the case for Scarlet and Violet, it is much more alarming this time around.

However, with the games surely getting patches, these numbers do ensure that more games will be made. Pokemon is loved in the hearts of many and there will always be a demand. Fans are still encouraged to love and buy the games despite their flaws. But they should never hold back as their honesty will hopefully trigger much-needed growth within the mindset of GameFreak’s higher-ups.

Conclusion

Whether people love it or hate it, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s sales numbers added up to be quite successful. The game has been out since November 18 and is one of the best Pokemon games out there. Whether it will become the best is up to how Gamefreak addresses post-launch needs in the coming days. While the community doesn’t know how long it will take for the company to learn its legends about having high standards, fans can at least celebrate the release of Pokemon’s first (and hopefully first of many) open-world installment. Keeping roaming Paldea, fans. And do it with all the cool new Pokemon.
