College Football Playoff Bracketology September 18

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology September 18.

CFP Four

1. Georgia Bulldogs (3-0)

Not only did Georgia thrash South Carolina this weekend, but their win over Oregon also looks much better now. The Ducks defeated BYU at home. Georgia looks like one of the top teams in the country and will be tough to beat.

This week: vs. Kent State Golden Flashes (1-2)

2. Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0)

The win over Notre Dame looks a little more questionable, but the Buckeyes got the big win in week 1 and now trounced Toledo. With a nice win and passing the eye test, Ohio State has earned a top two spot.

This week: vs. Wisconsin Badgers (2-1)

3. Kentucky Wildcats (3-0)

Kentucky defeated FCS-level Youngstown State this weekend 31-0. That won’t add much to their case to the CFP committee, but the win over Florida still remains solid after the Gators eeked out a win over USF this week.

This week: vs. Northern Illinois Huskies (1-2)

4. Arkansas Razorbacks (3-0)

At times, things looked bleak against Missouri State, but the Razorbacks bounced back to win 38-27. They still have a solid win over Cincinnati and a conference win over South Carolina under their belts to help their resume.

This week: at Texas A&M (2-1)

First Four Out

5. Washington Huskies (3-0)

Washington defended their home turf against Michigan State, who was ranked 11th going into the game. The Huskies are undefeated with wins over Kent State and Portland State as well. Michael Penix has helped the offense improve over last season.

This week: vs. Stanford Cardinal (1-1)

6. Washington State Cougars (3-0)

Washington State defeating Colorado State does little for them. Their win last week over Wisconsin on the road was really impressive though and moves them up the rankings.

This week: vs. Oregon Ducks (2-1)

7. Tennessee Volunteers (3-0)

The offense shined once again for the Volunteers, as they stayed unbeaten with a win over Akron. Their win at Pitt is still the main accomplishment, but the schedule will now get tougher.

This week: vs. Florida Gators (2-1) (Game in Jacksonville, Florida)

8. Penn State Nittany Lions (3-0)

Not only did Penn State defeat Auburn on the road, but they also did so handily. Pair that with a win on the road against Purdue and the Nittany Lions look like they will have their best season in a few years.

This week: vs. Central Michigan Chippewas (1-2)

Next Four Out

9. Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0)

Alabama breezed past Lousiana Monroe this week. Their main win so far is against Texas, which was by one point. The Crimson Tide are talented, but have not played a great team yet unless the Longhorns prove to be much better than last season.

This week: vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (2-1)

10. NC State Wolfpack (3-0)

The Wolfpack played Texas Tech at home and won by two touchdowns. Their defense and special teams have stepped up so far this season, but they’ll need their offense to step up soon.

This week: vs. UConn Huskies (1-3)

11. Oregon State Beavers (3-0)

With wins over Fresno State and Boise State through three weeks, Oregon State looks like they can compete in the Pac-12 North. Beating Montana State won’t get them any brownie points here, but they stayed undefeated.

This week: vs. USC Trojans (3-0)

12. North Carolina Tar Heels (3-0)

Being on bye this week has knocked North Carolina down the rankings. They still have some solid wins over Appalachian State and Georgia State. The bye may have given them a chance to work on their defense, which has been abysmal so far.

This week: vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-2)
