The US State Department to give $10 million to anyone that gives valuable information that can be used against the North Korean crypto hacking collectives and the amount is double the previous bounty that was promised in March. The North Korean hacking groups were a major burden for the American authoriteis for years and such entities stood behind some of the biggest exploits in the past draining millions of dollars worth of crypto from companies and organizations.

Chainalysis estimated that the North Korean cyber criminals stole up to $400 million in digital assets in 2021 as the funds were collected from investment companies and exchanges. Last month, Elliptic claimed that the cyber gang based in the East Asian country, the Lazarus hacking group, was the one that breached Harmony and drained $100 million worth of ETH.  The US State Department seems to be having a hard time with the bad actors since they disclosed $10 million awards for information that can disturb their activities.

“If you have any information on any individuals associated with North Korean government-linked malicious cyber groups (such as Andariel, APR38, Bluenoroff, Guardians of Peace, Kimsuky, or Lazarus Group) and who are involved in targeting US critical infrastructure in violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, you may be eligible for a reward.”

The problems by the US State Department when battling the hackers might be beucase cyber criminals use various techniques to setal and under cryptocurrencies. Earlier this year, the Center for a New American Security placed the Lazarus Group among the most advanced hack groups worldwide describing them as a masterful army of cybercriminals and foreign affiliates. Coincub claimed that the North Korean government controlled all attacks while some of the gang members were related to Kim Jong-un and his inner circle.
