Tyrone Tracy Background

2023 stats: 113 carries, 716 rushing yards, 6.3 yards per carry, 8 rushing touchdowns, 19 receptions, 132 receiving yards

Tracy started his career as a wide receiver, but moved to running back and improved his stock. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a three-star recruit in the class of 2018, Tracy signed with Iowa out of Indiana. He played a little in his first year, but ended up redshirting. In 2019, he had his best season at Iowa with 36 catches for 589 yards and three touchdowns. His production dipped over the next two seasons and then he transferred to Purdue for the 2022 season. He saw time running the ball and catching with 138 rushing yards and 198 receiving yards on the season. Tracy’s role increased in 2023, as he tallied 716 rushing yards, 132 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in his first full season as a running back.

Following the 2023 season, Tracy entered the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second to fourth-round pick.

Tyrone Tracy Strengths

Although he started his career as a receiver, he has a good build for a running back. He stands 5-foot-11 and 209 pounds. His frame is pretty filled out and he should be ready for an NFL workload. With his size, comes solid power and contact balance.

The athleticism that he displayed at wide receiver also showed up at running back. He has good acceleration and solid long speed. His agility is also good, as he can make good cuts to make defenders miss. He has solid hands and can run after the catch well to pick up extra yards.

Surprisingly for a new running back, Tracy has good vision. He sees holes open up on the interior and can run through the tackles. His second-level vision is also good, as he can find open space and generate big plays. With more reps, his vision could improve even more.

Tyrone Tracy Weaknesses

There are times when Tracy can try to make something out of nothing. He can try to get upfield more rather than trying to bounce runs outside in these situations. Getting north and south will help him, but so too will not trying to make too much out of plays and losing yards as a result.

He is still learning about how to protect the passer. Tracy can do a better job of recognizing where pressure is coming from. He also needs to do a better job of squaring up defenders who end up making their way towards the quarterback to better protect them.

While he has good size and power, he can use that strength even more. There are times where he can dance too much instead of running right through a defender. The elusiveness is nice, but adding more power running to his game can make him more diversified.
