Twitch showed the most growth, hitting a peak of 6.3 billion hours watched in Q1 2021—a 16.5-percent increase compared to Q4 2020.
Those impressive numbers have dipped throughout Q2, but non-gaming streaming like live music, traditional sports tie-ins, and more have laid the groundwork for the continued success of content beyond gaming on Twitch.
Throughout the last 24 months, several key moments have led to this increase in non-gaming content finding an audience on Twitch specifically.
- Since creating its “Music” category in July 2020, the section has accumulated more than 230 million hours watched.
- The NBA partnered with top Brazilian streamer Gaules to co-stream the NBA Playoffs on Twitch, which pushed the non-gaming viewership total towards its highest peak ever.
- Overall, “Sports” content on Twitch saw an hours watched increase of 82 percent from Q1 to Q2 2021
