Troy Fautanu 2024 NFL Draft Profile

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Troy Fautanu 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Troy Fautanu Background

Position: Interior Offensive Line

School: Washington

Size: 6-foot-4, 317 pounds

Class: Junior

2023 stats: All-Pac-12 First Team

Fautanu was a big part of Washington’s success over the last few seasons. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a four-star recruit out of Nevada, Fautanu signed with Washington in the class of 2018. He redshirted in his first season on campus and then played in four games for the 2020 season. In 2021, Fautanu played in nine games and started three for the Huskies. He finally entered the starting lineup on a full-time basis in 2022 when he played left tackle and left guard. His play helped the Huskies go 11-2 on the season. Fautanu returned to the starting lineup for the 2023 season and was named All-Pac-12 First Team. He led the Huskies to the CFP.

Following a National Championship Game appearance, Fautanu declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is a projected day two pick.

Troy Fautanu Strengths

Fautanu is a great athlete for an interior lineman in the NFL. He held up well athletically at tackle, which means it will help him a ton on the inside. Fautanu gets a good jump at the snap of the ball showing his good quickness. He has good speed to get to the second level and can also be used as a puller or on screens. Fautanu shows solid flexibility as well.

He is a good run blocker for a few different reasons. Fautanu keeps good leverage, which helps him maintain his power. As mentioned, he can get to the second level well and opens up holes for big gains because of it. He can pull and block well in space. His quickness at the snap helps get an early start to the play as well.

While mostly playing tackle, Fautanu was able to mirror pass rushers because of his lateral quickness. Teams may elect to keep him on the outside because of this, but he will definitely have an athletic edge on the interior. His flexibility helps prevent defenders from bending around the edge.

Troy Fautanu Weaknesses

Fautanu does not have the greatest size for an NFL offensive lineman. At 6-foot-4 and 317 pounds, he is one of the smaller players projected to be drafted highly for linemen. He has shorter arms, which is partially why a move inside could be recommended. Fautanu also doesn’t have great strength, especially if he moves to the interior. He will need to work on his anchor strength in pass protection.

His hands could pack more of a punch. He also could have better timing, as he sometimes waits too long to get his hands on a defender. In addition, he needs to have better hand placement, as his hands can get too wide.

In most cases, Fautanu has good awareness, but there are times when he reacts late to what a defense is doing. He sometimes does this on stunts or twists, but also does it when pressure is coming. Fautanu is just a tick late, but usually tries to get to the right spot, so more reps will help, as well as a move to the inside.
