This Week in Ducks Hockey Anaheim Looks to Stop Skid

Date:

This week the Ducks will have a three game home stand.

Anaheim is returning to the Honda Center Tuesday night following six straight losses and seven losses in their last eight games. Anaheim is 23-42-3 on the season including 3-7-0 in their last ten games. During the six game skid Anaheim has allowed 31 goals including four games of allowing six goals or more.

Next for the Ducks are three games at home at the Honda Center. Followed by a five game road trip that starts with back to back games in Seattle.

Tonight the Ducks will be facing the Minnesota Wild for the final time this season. Minnesota won the last meeting just five days ago 2-0. The Ducks won the first meeting in January 3-2. Tonight’s winner decides the season series

Minnesota is 33-27-8 so far this season and just five points behind the Golden Knights for the second Western Conference wild card spot. Minnesota sees every game as a must win right now, and are colliding with a Ducks team starving for a win.

Then on Thursday the Ducks have the opportunity to get revenge on a Chicago Blackhawks team that scored seven goals on them just a week ago. Chicago is one of just two teams below the Ducks in the Western Conference standings.

The Ducks have had a lot of struggles this season, but are in one of their worst stretches of the season. Penalties have been a major issue all season, and during the six game skid. Anaheim leads the league with 967 penalty minutes. To make matters even worse the Ducks penalty kill unit that has seen a lot of action, but have not worked at an efficient rate. Currently the penalty kill unit ranks 31st in the NHL with a 73.09% penalty kill rate.

Turnovers have still been an issue for the Ducks like they have all year. The giveaways in their own zone have added up to a lot of goals for their opponents.
