More than 60.000 people are coming to Lisbon this week for Web Summit.

I’m not going to lie to you, last year was a bit overwhelming. It looked like the world was about to end and Lisbon was the safest place on earth.

However, what I soon realised, was that there was this huge misconception that everything happens at Web Summit itself. Nothing could be further from the truth.

There is just so much going on outside of the actual event that it would be insane to go home once the lights are out at the big Altice Arena. So, for all those who are interested in what’s happening besides Web Summit next week, we have made you a list of our favourite side events at Web Summit.

From funky parties to virtual reality meetups, from cocktails on a yacht to startup city tours, it’s all here.

Lisbon Startup Tour

When: 6th November
Where: Top startups in Lisbon
Time: 1:30 pm

Curious to meet the best startups in Lisbon? The Lisbon Startup Tour, already going for its third edition, gives you a ride and introduces you to the local startup scene, considered by Wired as one of the best in Europe. Get to know startups such as Aptoide, the third biggest app store in the world, Talkdesk, one of the fastest growing startups in the world, or Uniplaces, the market changing startup for student accommodation.

Oh, and Unbabel is also part of this tour so, if you’re interested in passing by our office you’re more than welcome (I think you’ll have to choose track 5 of the tour).

The Unbabel Yacht

This year at Unbabel we’re taking meetings to the next level. We will have a yacht right next to the Web Summit venue and we would like to welcome you on board. Women in VR: Web Summit Meet-up

When: 7 November
Where: Communication Museum
Time: 6 pm

VR is called the new empathy machine, so no wonder that so many women are leading the way in this field, and next week you’ll get to meet some of these women. Organised by Portuguese Women in Tech, and NowHere Media, this VR meetup in Lisbon will let you join women leading in VR, AR, 360, interactivity, mixed reality and storytelling in a debate and networking event on the role of women in bringing media production and distribution to a whole new futuristic level.

Funky Party

When: 7 November
Where: Time Out Studio
Time: 10 pm

This will definitely be one of the best parties in town. Organised by Beta-i, in partnership with La French Tech, this Funky Party will take Time Out Studio by storm. They’re going to have a live concert, from a Portuguese band called Cais do Sodré Funk Connection, and lots of funky djs.

Night Summit

When: 6-9 November
Where: All around Lisbon
Time: 7 pm

The show must go on! Once the lights go out at the Web Summit venue that’s when all the fun begins at the Night Summit, when the Web Summit team puts together some pub crawls and parties for you.

On the 6th of November, over 120 crawls will take place across 120 bars in Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real from 8pm until midnight. Local hosts will take small groups of attendees to bars including Lisbon favourites Pavilhão Chines, Gin Lovers, Double 9, The Decadente and Maria Caxuxa.

On the 7th of November, the Web Summit takes over Pink Street and Cais do Sodré. With bargain happy hour drink deals in over 25 bars including 4 Caravelas Cocktail Bar, Pensão Amor, Espumanteria, and La Puttana.

And finally, on the 8th of November, they are taking Night Summit to LX Factory. You can snap up food and drink deals in over 30 different restaurants and bars, as well as a chance to listen to some amazing music acts, all with a gorgeous view overlooking Lisbon’s 25 de Abril bridge.

Bea.to Unconference

Where: Hub Creativo do Beato
Time: 6 pm – 2 am

The Hub Creativo do Beato is the new spot in town so, the Lisbon Municipality, Startup Lisboa and Startup Portugal are showing it to world. They call it a “3 day playground for visionaries from fields like tech, entrepreneurship, digital- and popculture”.
