The injured Red Sox fight on, as in their past eight games they have gone 6-2, and have done it despite losing players to injury.
In their past eight games, the Red Sox went on a six game win streak before losing their last two, one a close game in extra innings, and the other a blowout.
The Win-Streak
The win streak started with the third game in their series against the Colorado Rockies, where the Sox managed to finally get a win after losing two close games.
Then they went and swept their oldest rival, the New York Yankees, and stomped them in the first two games. This was in part due to the fact Justin Turner and Masataka Yoshida went on hot streaks, and got their teammates hitting consistently as well. This was their second meeting with the Yankees this season, and their second series win.
At this point they had won four in a row, and were going on their next road trip, against the Minnesota Twins. The Sox won by a landslide in their first two games, thanks to their young players in Jarren Duran and Triston Casas for the first game they won 9-3, and the next they won 10-4, thanks to a combined effort from red-hot Justin Turner, Masataka Yoshida, and the biggest bat from the start of the season who missed a lot of time due to a broken hand, Adam Duvall.
The next games were a close loss in extra innings off a walkoff sacrifice fly, and then a stomping by the Twins, due to the fact the sox had no real starter and planned to do a reliever game, sending a new pitcher every one to two innings.
The Injuries
During this win streak, the Red Sox got beat up and set up with even more injuries. Already having lost their ace Chris Sale, they lost another starter in Tanner Houck in the first game of the series against the Yankees. Houck had to undergo surgery in order to repair his face, and is likely out for a couple weeks.
Then, during the series against the Twins, the Sox lost two more, one to injury and another to bereavement. Reese McGuire, one of the starting catchers, injured himself during the third game of the series, and will be missing two weeks of action. The other, Alex Verdugo, will also be out, after being placed on the bereavement list.
Moving On
The injured Red sox will fight on, continuing their road trip down to Chicago, to play the Chicago White Sox on June 23, 2023. Young arm Brayan Bello will be the starter for the first game.
