The Best Cleveland Cavalier Centers of All-Time

Date:

Across the history of the Cleveland Cavaliers there have been some great centers. But who is the best off all time? Here’s a look at the best centers to ever play for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Timofey Mosgov

Kicking the list off at number five is Timofey Mostov. Although he only spent two seasons in Cleveland, he was able to help secure a championship in that time. He averaged 7.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He wasn’t here for a long time, but he was here for a good time. A good enough time to earn him a spot in the top five Cleveland Cavalier centers of all time.

Anderson Varejao

Anderson Varejao is the longest tenured Cavalier on this list spending 13 seasons in Cleveland. In that time he averaged 7.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He also had five games in which he grabbed 20 or more rebounds. Although he was a consistent Cav, he wasn’t a consistently healthy player. Eight of the 13 seasons he was in Cleveland he played 50 or less games. He also was traded just before the Cavs won the Finals, barely missing out on what could have been the culmination of his Cleveland career. His play, however, is absolutely enough to earn him a spot on this list.

Tristan Thompson

Spending nine seasons in Cleveland, Tristan Thompson produced a stat line of 9.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. He also, like Varejao, had five games in which he grabbed 20 or more boards. Unlike Varejao, however, he was part of the squad that won a chip. He also was a very consistent player, playing every game between 2012 and 2016, and followed this streak with a 78 game season. One of the main fixtures of the championship team, Thompson lands at the third best center to play for the Cavaliers.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas

With 13.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, Zydrunas Ilgauskas is a bonafide Cavalier great. Across his 12 seasons in a Cleveland uniform he was a two time all-star, scored 30 plus points 10 times and grabbed 17 or more rebounds 13 times. He also, excluding his final year in the league, played every season for the Cavs. Although he was one of the best centers in Cleveland history, there is one man who slightly edges above him.

Brad Daughtery

Spending his entire career as a Cleveland Cavalier, Brad Daughtery is the best center to ever play for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Across his eight seasons he averaged 19 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He never won a ring, but was a five time all star and among the first to establish what it means to be an all time Cavalier legend.
