Decentraland Project Review : Virtual World Owned by Community

Decenterland project review

Nowadays, people are spending more time in the virtual world in comparison to the real world. People are using mobiles, laptops for both work and leisure. An introduction to the 3D world will create a more immersive experience for people. Websites and applications where people spend most of their time are controlled by a centralized entity. People don’t have any control over these applications. Decentraland, unlike other social networks, games are not controlled by a centralized entity. The community owns and has full control over this shared virtual world.  What is Decentraland? Decentraland is a shared virtual world that is powered by the Ethereum blockchain. Its users can create content and monetize it. Users can pay for experiencing various applications in Decentraland. The community permanently owns the land in Decentraland and has full control over it. The ownership of land can be claimed by users through a blockchain-based ledger of parcels. Each portion of land can be identified by a set of cartesian coordinates (x,y). Landowners decide what type of content can be published to their land, content can be static 3D scenes, interactive games. All the land in Decentraland is an NFT, stored in an Ethereum smart contract. To acquire land in Decentraland, the MANA token is used. Digital goods and services can also be purchased by MANA. How does Decentraland work? Decentraland has built a framework for supporting shared virtual worlds. A decentralized ledger stores all the data of ownership of land, contents of each parcel of land and also provides a peer-to-peer network for user interactions. Users can participate in governance functions and can propose policies and vote on upcoming LAND auctions. Decentraland’s protocol consists of three layers : A consensus layer: This layer is used for tracking ownership of land and its content. A LAND content layer: This layer uses a decentralized distributed system to download assets and for rendering content in the virtual world.  A real-time layer: This layer is responsible for enabling users to connect with each other.   The above diagram shows the steps executed by the Decentraland client to provide the experience of a virtual world in a decentralized manner. Each piece of land is marked by a unique set of cartesian coordinates. Content created by users can vary from 2D scenes to 3D scenes giving an immersive experience.  The consensus layer is responsible for tracking ownership of land, land content is referenced here as a hash of the file’s content. The content can be downloaded from IPFS or BitTorrent by using reference. The downloaded file of content contains a description of objects, sounds, textures, and other elements needed to render the content scene.  Decentraland has two important systems which enable its economy to develop : Payment Channel Infrastructure: It enables fast payment with low fees. Identity System: It allows users to prove their ownership over their creations.  Tokenomics   Decentraland has an ERC-20 token called MANA. It is used to buy, sell digital assets and can also be used for gambling in virtual casinos. It is also a governance token. Holders of MANA tokens can participate in governance functions. They can propose their own policy and can also vote on the different proposals.  Decentraland is controlled by MANA holders through Decentraland DAO. The DAO owns the important smart contracts and assets such as the LAND contract, Estates contract, Wearables, Content servers, and Marketplace.  1 MANA token gets you 1 vote and owners of LAND and Estates get 2000 votes. The maximum supply of MANA tokens is 2.193 billion. As of writing this article, the circulating supply of MANA tokens is 1.32 billion, the market cap is 3.7 billion, and the price is 2.84 US dollars. Applications of Decentraland Content Curation  Decentraland users can create content of shared interest of their neighbors. If a creator is living near a high traffic hub, then more users will drive to the creator’s content. Advertising Brands can drive users to their products, services, and events by using billboards to advertise in high-traffic hubs. Brands can create shared experiences to engage their audience so that users will be interested in using these experiences in their own land. Digital Collectibles  Digital assets are published, distributed, and collected by users on the blockchain. These digital assets can be traded easily by users in the Decentralnd. Rare or old digital assets are traded at a very high price. These digital collectibles are used to identify users and their land.  Social All the groups which are present in online forums, chat groups, discords can port their communities into Decentraland. People can form different communities on various subjects and can propose their policies through governance. Conclusion Decentraland has opened a new world of possibilities for internet users. Users can create their own content on a decentralized platform and can receive all … Continued

MHI: Successful Demonstration Test of World’s First Fully Autonomous Ship Navigation Systems on Coastal Ferry in Northern Kyushu

TOKYO, Jan 18, 2022 - (JCN Newswire) - The Nippon Foundation, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, and Shin Nihonkai Ferry Co., Ltd., (Osaka, Japan; Yasuo Iritani, Chairman) have successfully completed a demonstration test of the world's first fully autonomous ship navigation systems on a large car ferry, conducted on the Iyonada Sea from Shinmoji, Kitakyushuu City, on January 17.

This demonstration was part of MEGURI 2040, a project promoting the development of fully autonomous vessels supported by The Nippon Foundation. This test demonstrated the world's first fully autonomous navigation system, on a 222-meter ferry, with autonomous port berthing and unberthing using turning and reversing movements and high-speed navigation of up to 26 knots. Other new technologies included in the advanced fully autonomous operation system include sensors to detect other ships using infrared cameras, a remote engine monitoring system, and a sophisticated cyber security system. These advances in fully autonomous ship navigation are seen as a significant step toward safer and more efficient coastal shipping.

Research and development of fully autonomous ship navigation is intended to address maritime issues including crew shortages and accident prevention. This is also expected to become a "future industry" through which Japan can demonstrate to the world its advanced technologies in areas including ICT, AI, and image analysis technology.

The Nippon Foundation launched the MEGURI 2040 fully autonomous ship navigation project in February 2020 through support for five consortia, which will all be conducting demonstration tests to verify their fully autonomous navigation system concepts from January to March 2022.

Fully autonomous ship project (Smart Coastal Ferry)

Today's successful demonstration test was of the fully autonomous Smart Coastal Ferry project. The newly built SOLEIL ferry began navigating with an onboard crew on July 1, 2021, compiling data for the development of a fully autonomous ship navigation system. Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., which has experience in developing navigation support systems that realize automation and crew labor savings, is responsible for the integration of the entire system, and Shin Nihonkai Ferry Co., Ltd. is in charge of setting the vessel's system requirements and conducting the demonstration test. These developments will help resolve issues in coastal shipping including improved safety, crew labor savings, and cost reductions.

Demonstration test and development highlights

The demonstration test of the world's first fully autonomous ship navigation systems of the 222-meter smart vessel was conducted on a 240-km route from Shinmoji (Northern Kyushu) to Iyonada, which takes approximately 7 hours, at a maximum speed of 26 knots (approximately 50 km/hour). The test vessel was equipped with a high-precision sensor image analysis system with infrared cameras that can detect other ships even in darkness, a SUPER BRIDGE-X automated ship navigation system that includes an automated avoidance function, and an advanced automated port berthing/unberthing operation system that can perform turning and reversing movements that are even difficult for manned vessels.

One of the biggest issues of a fully automated vessel is fault prediction, and enhanced engine monitoring technologies that monitor motor conditions are being developed and tested as well.
The project is also developing various other technologies essential to the promotion of fully autonomous navigation, including platforms for advanced data security to protect the navigation data used for onshore monitoring and support.

Mitsuyuki Unno, Executive Director, The Nippon Foundation
This was the world's first fully autonomous ship navigation of a large vessel of over 200 meters in length with a maximum running speed of 26 knots, and I hope this will lead to further development toward practical use. There are still many issues to be resolved, however, and I believe today's results will be a guide toward the creation of international rules for fully autonomous vessels.

Naoki Ueda, Executive Vice President, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd
This demonstration test greatly accelerated the development of fully autonomous ship navigation systems using many advanced technologies including artificial intelligence. We will continue to develop technologies using the valuable knowledge gained to achieve safety and high quality service for passenger ferries, which play an important role in supporting marine transportation in the island nation of Japan.

Masami Sasaki, Executive Director, Shin Nihonkai Ferry Co., Ltd.
We are honored to be involved in the development of a fully autonomous ship navigation system that represents the future of Japan's shipping industry.

As a passenger ferry company, we have high expectations for the social application and widespread use of fully autonomous operation as one of the solutions to issues including human error and crew labor savings.

Bridge your Crypto Tokens to Different Blockchains using ChainPort’s Permissionless Protocol

ChainPort

One major issue the crypto space has faced for a long time now is the issue of interoperability. This however is beginning to be a non-issue as solutions pop up every day in this fast-moving industry of ours. One of these solutions I’ve been impressed with is that of ChainPort and I’d be talking about them in this article.  ChainPort  ChainPort is a permissionless crypto bridge that lets its users port any crypto token to different blockchains like Polygon, Avalanche, Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and Ethereum. ChainPort plans to support all EVM compatible networks. This is detailed on the Roadmap. This ability to transfer tokens to different blockchains enables anyone to make any token blockchain agnostic by carrying out a few simple clicks.  ChainPort works in three simple steps: You deposit tokens You mint them on your target chain  And then they are ready to use on Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs)  ChainPort Features and Benefits  Permissionless — Users can port their tokens between blockchains and boldly trade across the cryptoverse without intervention or limitations.  Simple UX — ChainPort’s porting interface and experience is as user-friendly and simple as it can get.  Embeddable — ChainPort provides a direct link that is connected to the token pair and blockchain of users. This way, it’s easy to have a bridge to the bridge and it’s easier for the community of the user.  Full Interoperability — ChainPort boasts of a full cross-chain portal. This feature allows tokens to port across multiple chains without reverting to the original token.  Fast — ChainPort has one of the fastest bridge speeds in space. An average port takes only 2.5 minutes to complete.  API Integration — You can add ChainPort bridges directly to your token from your digital property.  Secure Bridge — For ChainPort, security is a top priority. The bridge secures all assets on it with a multi-layer technology that combines the latest breakthroughs in MPC cryptography and hardware isolation. There are also other advanced security features like fund segmentation, multi-sig cold wallet protection for assets, multiple contract audits etc.  Live Human Support — There is a live chat support feature on all of ChainPort’s devices How to Use ChainPort  Listed below are the steps you have to follow to successfully use ChainPort’s bridge to transfer tokens between different blockchains.    Connect your Wallet — On a first-time visit to ChainPort, you will need to connect your wallet to the platform. Wallets that are supported include MetaMask, Wallet Connect, Formatic, and Portis. To use other wallets, you can connect them through Wallet Connect via QR. Select a Token —  After connecting your wallet, you have to select the token you want to port over to a new blockchain.  Deposit the Token — After selecting the token you’re trying to port over to another blockchain, you can then deposit that token into ChainPort so that it can be sent over to the blockchain of choice. Approve the Transaction — Next you have to decide how much gas you want to pay for the transaction. This is the last thing you have to do and your tokens will be on a new blockchain.  Check It Out — When your tokens arrive at your Blockchain of choosing, you can press “Check it Out” and you’ll get redirected to Etherscan/BscScan/PolygonScan to view the transaction.  Verified Token   These are tokens that were ported with the help of the ChainPort Team. These tokens have liquidity on the other side of the bridge for you to trade on. Below is a sheet with all the tokens ChainPort supports https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-hKsH-n_jIx7ojusO9Wj4UmmgH-WHJN8VTJ5hlvl2E4/edit#gid=0 Token  CPT is the native utility token of the ChainPort ecosystem. It enables a premium discount for utilising ChainPort services throughout the network. Also, with CPT, a rev-share model is enabled for projects and affiliates of ChainPort. These affiliates/projects will earn a percentage of the fees paid for the tokens they help onramp and/or for transactions they refer to the ChainPort network.  The majority of the payable fees are used to buy CPT, which may then be used for burns or in yield strategies. Affiliates, referrers and projects of ported tokens will get some of the fees from the bridge. Holders of CPT who use the bridge with their CPT will have their CPT staked to perform yield strategies.  Another perk of CPT is that its holders will have VIP access to take advantage of the valuable data network effect the platform boasts of. The CPT Token will bridge the data network effect which is generated by ChainPort into a value network effect for all holders of the CPT token. Tokenomics ChainPort has fair tokenomics that has been conceived to share value with its users and supporters. This simple and effective system is built-in and exclusive to the platform. Users Fee + NFT Per Port 0.3% … Continued
