DENSO Develops Global Safety Package 3 to Improve Vehicle Sensing

KARIYA, JAPAN, Jan 14, 2022 - (JCN Newswire) - DENSO, a leading mobility supplier, today announced that it has developed Global Safety Package 3(1), an active safety system designed to improve the safety of vehicles by giving them high sensing capability of their surroundings. This product is used in the Hino Ranger, the Lexus NX, and the Toyota Noah and Voxy, which were released in August 2021, October 2021, and January 2022, respectively.


The Global Safety Package uses the combined performance of a millimeter-wave radar sensor and vision sensor to assist the driver in controlling the vehicle safely. The millimeter-wave radar sensor detects the shapes of road objects, such as vehicles and guardrails, while the vision sensor uses a camera to detect the environment ahead of the vehicle. DENSO has developed the third generation of the Global Safety Package.

In order to eliminate road accidents and achieve stress-free mobility, DENSO believes it is important to not only improve safety products in vehicles using cutting-edge technology, but also develop those products at attractive prices so they can benefit more vehicles. Under this philosophy, DENSO developed Global Safety Package 3 to improve its active safety and driver assistance performance while reducing product size and cost.

Millimeter-wave radar sensor

Product features

With a wider detection angle, longer detection range, and improved speed resolution(2), this product helps avoid collisions at intersections, whether with other vehicles or pedestrians. Moreover, thanks to its improved detection capability and reduced size and cost, this radar sensor has fewer installation requirements and can be used in more vehicle types and models.

Improved speed resolution by increasing the frequency modulation of radio wave transmissions.
Reduced size and cost, with the new model using fewer than half the number of parts compared to the previous generation. DENSO achieved this by integrating the antenna and power supply board, simplifying product structure and leveraging multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technology, which allows for a smaller antenna with fewer channels to transmit and receive radio waves.

Vision sensor

Product features

The sensor has a wider horizontal field of view to help with collision avoidance at intersections, as well as a longer range to detect road objects in front of the vehicle. This assists adaptive cruise control and lane changes over a broader speed range. Moreover, the product uses artificial intelligence (AI) to improve sensing performance and assistance functions, such as headway distance control - the ability to maintain consistent distance between a preceding vehicle - and traffic sign recognition.

Eisai to Launch Digital Too “Cogmate” in Taiwan and Hong Kong for Self-Assessment of Brain Performance (Brain Health)

TANAKA Denshi Kogyo to Establish New Plant in Hangzhou, China

TOKYO, Jan 12, 2022 - (JCN Newswire) - TANAKA Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Koichiro Tanaka) has announced that its subsidiary, TANAKA Denshi Kogyo K.K. (Head office: Kanzaki-gun, Saga; Representative Director & President: Shigeru Iseki), which is engaged in the production of various types of bonding wires, will establish a new plant in Hangzhou City, China, for the production of aluminum bonding wires for power semiconductors. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in November of 2022.

Construction of this new plant forms part of TANAKA Denshi Kogyo's plans to increase its production capacity for aluminum bonding wires by approximately three-fold by 2025 in order to meet the growing global demand associated with the growth of power semiconductors.

Mitsubishi Motors to Exhibit Electric Vehicles and SUVs at Tokyo Auto Salon 2022

TOKYO, Jan 12, 2022 - (JCN Newswire) - Under the theme of "The Next Era, The Next Adventure," Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will exhibit a total of seven models including two concept cars -- the K-EV concept X Style(1) and the Vision Ralliart Concept -- at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022(2).



Also on display will be five custom cars based on the production models available in Japan, which include the Outlander crossover SUV (two models); the Eclipse Cross crossover SUV; the Delica D:5 minivan; and the Minicab-MiEV, a kei-car(3) class electric commercial vehicle. Mitsubishi Motors' lineup centers on electric vehicles (EVs) and SUVs with enhanced environmental-friendliness, safety, security and comfort.

K-EV concept X Style
The K-EV concept X Style4 is a new generation all-electric kei-car with Mitsubishi Motors-ness, which combines safety, security and comfort, as well as environmental-friendliness. It fuses maneuverability of a kei-car with smooth yet powerful acceleration and high-quality ride comfort of an EV, while offering advanced driver assistance systems and connectivity.

The exterior features an SUV-like styling and a two-tone color scheme, with a clean, solid matte blue body and a copper-colored roof reminiscing the motor winding of an EV. The front bumper, body sides and liftgate are accentuated by X-shaped logos, which symbolize the combination of a height kei wagon with an SUV-feel and appeal of an all-electric vehicle.

JERA and MHI Start a Demonstration Project to Develop Technology to Increase the Ammonia Co-firing Rate at Coal-fired Boilers

TOKYO, Jan 7, 2022 - (JCN Newswire) - JERA Co., Inc. ("JERA") and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. ("MHI") have received notice of acceptance of their grant application, under the Green Innovation Fund program of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization ("NEDO"), to conduct a project to develop and demonstrate a technology to increase the ammonia co-firing rate at coal-fired boilers (the "Project").

Ammonia enables efficient, low-cost transport and storage of hydrogen. In addition to this role as an energy carrier, it can also be used directly as a fuel in thermal power generation. As a fuel that does not emit carbon dioxide when burned, ammonia is expected to offer great advantages in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In order to achieve a decarbonized society, it is important to reduce CO2 emissions from thermal power generation by innovating to increase the co-firing rate of fuel ammonia.

This Project aims to develop an ammonia single-fuel burner suitable for coal-fired boilers and to demonstrate operation of the burner at actual boilers. The term of the Project is approximately 8 years from FY 2021 to FY 2028.

By FY 2024, JERA and MHI will develop a new burner capable of single-fuel ammonia combustion and draw up a master plan for equipment to demonstrate its use in actual boilers. Based on the results, the two companies will decide whether to install the burners at JERA's coal-fired boilers made by MHI. For the actual plant demonstrations, JERA and MHI plan to verify co-firing with at least 50% ammonia at two units with different boiler types by FY 2028.

Under its "JERA Zero CO2 Emissions 2050" objective, JERA has been working to reduce CO2 emissions from its domestic and overseas businesses to zero by 2050, promoting the adoption of greener fuels and pursuing thermal power that does not emit CO2 during power generation. JERA will continue to contribute to energy industry decarbonization through its own proactive efforts to develop decarbonization technologies while ensuring economic rationality.
