Google DeepMind and Quantinuum Use AI to Accelerate Quantum Computers
In a new collaboration, Google DeepMind and UK-based Quantinuum have unveiled research that marks a significant advancement in quantum computing powered by artificial intelligence. The partnership has solved a critical hurdle in developing fault-tolerant quantum computers by reducing the number of T gates, which are pivotal yet resource-intensive components of quantum circuits. Leveraging DeepMind’s AlphaTensor technology, the team introduced AlphaTensor-Quantum, an AI model adept at optimizing the T-count through tensor decomposition and deep reinforcement learning. This innovative approach surpasses existing efficiency methods and integrates domain-specific quantum computation knowledge and magnetization techniques to significantly reduce the number of T gates required. AlphaTensor-Quantum’s capability to automate and enhance the optimization process could revolutionize quantum computing, offering potential benefits in quantum chemistry and beyond while saving researchers hundreds of hours of work.
Quantum Educational Tool Quokka Launched at the 2024 Quantum Australia Conference
At the Quantum Australia conference in Sydney, Professor Chris Ferrie introduced Eigensystems, his new venture to enhance quantum education through innovative tools. The highlight of the announcement was the unveiling of Quokka Quantum, a pioneering personal quantum computer designed to plug into a laptop, fostering quantum literacy among users. This compact device, small enough to fit in one’s palm, is slated to start shipping in mid-2024 and offers four levels of programming from Quokka Basic to Quokka Advanced, featuring a rich library of content and lessons specifically tailored for high school students. The launch of Quokka Quantum marks a significant milestone as the first consumer product in the quantum computing space, promising an easy-to-use platform with free, integrated programming methods and narrative-driven lessons to educate the next generation in the quantum age. Constantine Quantum Technologies (CQTech) Wins First Place at QHack’s hackathon Organized by Xanadu
Constantine Quantum Technologies (CQTech) has triumphed at the QHack coding hackathon organized by Xanadu, securing the coveted first place in one of the most competitive and prestigious annual events in the quantum computing sector. The team displayed exceptional skill, creativity, and resilience by solving 21 challenging quantum programming problems within 48 hours, finishing two days before the deadline. A remarkable achievement was made by a second team from CQTech, composed mainly of interns, which placed in the top 10% of the competition, standing out among over 700 teams. This success not only underscores the team’s hard work and dedication but also highlights their young interns’ promising talent and potential, signaling a bright future for CQTech in the field of quantum computing.
