Oregon and Washington to Join Big Ten

Date:

The University of Oregon and the University of Washington will join the Big Ten Conference according to Brett McMurphy.

After Colorado left the Pac-12 for the Big 12, Arizona has been approved as the Big 12’s 14th member. This left the Pac-12 with eight schools left after USC and UCLA already declared their intentions to leave for the Big Ten. Oregon and Washington will now join them in the conference.

With the additions of Oregon and Washington, the Big Ten will expand to 18 teams, making them the largest conference.

Pac-12 schools were holding out for a better television deal. While Oregon and Washington won’t get full shares of the television revenue to start, they eventually will. Big Ten teams are projected to get full shares eventually that reach $80-$100 million per year.

With the reported departures of Oregon, Washington, Arizona (Still needs to be approved by the Board of Regents) USC, UCLA and Colorado leaves the conference with just six teams. They are: Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona State, Stanford, California and Utah.
