NFL Draft Prospects in the 2023 Gasparilla Bowl

Date:

The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2023 Gasparilla Bowl.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Draft Prospects

LaMiles Brooks, S

Brooks joined Georgia Tech in 2020, but did not play much in 2020 or 2021. He jumped into the starting lineup in 2022 and was immediately productive. In his career, he has 124 total tackles, four interceptions and 13 passes defended. This season, he has registered 62 total tackles, one interception and six passes defended.

At 6-foot-2 and 188 pounds, Brooks has solid size for an NFL defensive back, but he’ll likely still have to fill out his frame. Brooks has been a playmaker at the backend of the defense, which NFL scouts will note. He still has eligibility left so he may elect to return to school.

Projected Draft Range: 6th Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent

Christian Leary, WR

Leary started his collegiate career at Alabama. He transferred to Georgia Tech for the start of the 2023 season. In his career, he has 28 receptions for 319 yards and three touchdowns. He did most of his work this season with 25 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns.

His size measures in at 5-foot-10 and 173 pounds, which is undersized for the NFL. He may have to play in the slot to find a role. It is unlikely that Leary goes pro, but rather, will likely return to school to get more tape before entering the draft.

Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent

Other Draft Prospects: QB Haynes King (UFA), LB Andre White (UFA), OT Pierre Quick (UFA), WR Chase Lane (UFA), RB Dontae Smith (UFA)

UCF Knights Draft Prospects

RJ Harvey, RB

Harvey spent the 2019 season at Virginia where he redshirted. He transferred to UCF before the 2020 season, but really became a contributor starting in 2022. Over his career, he has 2,095 rushing yards, 446 receiving yards and 22 total touchdowns. This season was his best, as he registered 1,296 rushing yards, 231 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

At 5-foot-9 and 205 pounds, he fills out his frame pretty well. His great production over the last two years helps his stock, especially because he showed he can be a threat out of the backfield as a receiver too. He has eligibility remaining, but may elect to go pro to limit more wear and tear on his body.

Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent

John Rhys Plumlee, QB

Plumlee started his career at Ole Miss for three seasons. He transferred to UCF prior to the 2022 season and has been the starter ever since. In his career, he has passed for 5,640 yards, 32 touchdowns and 19 interceptions on 61.3 percent completion. This season he has 2,073 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 63.9 percent completion. He also has 2,524 rushing yards in his career.

The quarterback stands at 6-foot and 200 pounds, which is below average for an NFL quarterback. His ability to run the football could get him a chance to make a roster. He’ll need to develop more as a passer to be seriously considered for playing time at the next level.

Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent

Other Draft Prospects: DL Ricky Barber (UFA), LB Terrence Lewis (UFA), EDGE Branden Jennings (UFA), DL Lee Hunter (UFA), WR Javon Baker (UFA), OT Lokahi Pauole (UFA), IOL Bula Schmidt (UFA), EDGE Tre’Mon Morris-Brash (UFA), TE Alec Holler (UFA) CB Decorian Patterson (UFA)
