New Upgrade Released To Fix Cursed Inscriptions Issue of Bitcoin Ordinals
  • The first step towards indexing the unrecognized inscriptions was announced on June 4.
  • Compatibility with several varieties of cursed inscriptions was included in the upgrade.

To fix over 71,000 erroneous or “cursed” inscriptions and make them tradable again, the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol’s developers have released an upgrade. Inscriptions that were formed by the accidental or deliberate manipulation of opcodes were dubbed “cursed inscriptions” since they were rendered invalid and unrecognized.

Moreover, the first step towards indexing the unrecognized inscriptions was announced on June 4. By developers, including Twitter user Raphjaph, who said the Ordinals protocol had been updated to version 0.6.0. In late April, Ordinals’ designer Casey Rodarmor proposed a solution to the problem. The ability to recognize these cursed inscriptions and transform them into “blessed” ones.

Negative Inscriptions Numbers Shift

As part of the update, compatibility with several varieties of cursed inscriptions was included. This is achieved by establishing an activation height for blocks. Below which certain categories of formerly invalid inscriptions would be classified as typical positive ones.

Ordinals proponent LeonidasNFT explained that they would be included in the set of indexed Ordinals that may be traded. All those in possession of cursed inscriptions, he said, “should expect the negative inscription numbers to be shifted.”

In order to engrave information into the lowest fraction of a Bitcoin, a satoshi, Bitcoin Ordinals must be used. Thousands of inscriptions were imprinted on the Bitcoin blockchain in February, leading to congestion and an increase in transaction fees, after the protocol was released in January by Casey Rodarmor.

Inscriptions on ordinals have been compared to NFTs because of their scarcity and collector value. These early or converted inscriptions on satoshi’s may become valuable at a later time, when users seek a unique piece of data permanently carved into the Bitcoin network.
