The New England Patriots are adding to their quarterback room after surprising the entire NFL world by cutting Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham ahead of their regular season debut. Former Saints and Eagles quarterback Ian Book is signing with the Pats on a yet-unknown deal.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Book was drafted in the fourth round with the 133rd overall pick by the New Orleans Saints. He managed a full year there before being cut in August of 2022. One day later, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and was cut almost a year to the day of the last time he was released.
Currently, Book will be on New England’s practice squad. Their current active roster depth chart features Mac Jones first, Bailey Zappe second (who was released and signed the next day ahead of Week 1), and Matt Corral who is currently listed as “out.”
