Neil Magny Stuns Toronto Crowd in the Final Seconds

Date:

At UFC 297 on Saturday night, Neil Magny showed MMA fans around the world that he’s still got it. Magny stunned the Toronto crowd, finishing the hometown favorite, Mike Malott with less than twenty seconds left in the fight. Magny was down 2-0 on the judges scorecards. Heading into the third and final round, he was aware he needed a finish. Malott appeared to become extremely fatigued late in the third round, almost gasping for air at times. Magny found an opportunity at the end where he was able to finish the rising contender with a flurry of ground-strikes. This was his thirty-second fight inside the UFC octagon, and his twenty-second victory.

What’s Next for Both Fighters?

After this huge win, it doesn’t appear as if Magny is going to retire anytime soon. He’s currently ranked number twelve in the welterweight division. His next fight will most likely be against someone in the top fifteen. If there were a prediction on who the opponent is, it’d be fourteenth ranked Michael Chiesa. Magny lost by decision to Chiesa back in 2021. With the two being so close to one another in rank, it would only make sense for him to try and avenge that loss. For Mike Malott, the thirty-two year old is still trying to find a way to squeak into the welterweight rankings. With a failed attempt to do so against Magny, his next matchup will most likely be against another unranked opponent. One who is close to surging into the rankings. Magny continues to be a gatekeeper within the welterweight division.
