The brand new character for My Hero Ultra Rumble just released: Aizawa. He’s a specialist character, who can erase other people’s quirks. This makes him a rather unique hero, but is Aizawa good in My Hero Ultra Rumble?
He’s definitely not the worst, but Aizawa is not overpowered whatsoever. Many speculated the hero would launch in a broken state, considering he has a kick and grapple for mobility, and a quirk erasing special. But in actuality, the character is pretty balanced. In fact, the argument could definitely be made that the character is flat up bad.
Aizawa’s animations are a problem
Aizawa’s grapple has an end lag animation, where he slams the ground. This prevents him from effectively moving up buildings, and decreases his overall mobility. Think of it as a Mr. Compress Gamma ability, but instead of the lag in the beginning of the move, it’s towards the end. And considering Mr. Compress’ wind up animation is his biggest weakness, Aizawa will definitely struggle with a similar weakness.

There is a mechanic where he can make up for his grapple animation by using his kick immediately after, but even the kick doesn’t fly very fast. It does move him forward, but the trajectory at which Aizawa travels is far too slow. This therefore leaves him pretty vulnerable to enemy attacks.
To add on, Aizawa’s Gamma ability forces him to stand still. Though the damage is pretty solid, it doesn’t deal crowd control. The combo is likely to use the grapple to bind enemies, then follow up with the Gamma ability to deal some amazing damage.
Quirk erasing is pretty good
The biggest strength Aizawa provides is his special ability, which allows him to erase the enemy’s quirk. This is great, because it essentially disables all their moves except for their melee. When in a team fight, the quirk erasing provides fantastic utility.
The downside is Aizawa can’t use his abilities either during this time. Therefore, it’s not a broken move, and very much has to be well coordinated with allies to make the most of. But in a game where most random parties have less coordination than toddlers, the likelihood of properly utilizing the Quirk Erasing is rather slim.
In conclusion
Aizawa is kind of bad in My Hero Ultra Rumble. He provides an interesting gameplay mechanic, but in a game where mobility truly is king, Aizawa’s animations are far too slow to keep up with many of the cast. And the utility he provides isn’t as easily abusable as the likes of Ibara or Mt. Lady, making him either a B or C tier.
For those who learn to master the character, he may become decent. But when trying with little to no experience, expect to die almost immediately when playing Aizawa in My Hero Ultra Rumble.
