One of the oldest teams in the European League of Legends scene, Misfits Gaming, has decided to step down from LEC and sell its spot to Team Heretics. Misfits will complete the 2022 season and then leave their rights to Heretics, starting from the 2023 season.

Heretics Stepping In

The rumors came true as Misfits Gaming decided to sell its LEC spot to Team Heretics. The spot will be owned by Misfits Gaming until the end of the 2022 season and the new brand will join the ecosystem starting next season. They will own all the player contracts until the end of the year, per Riot Games.

“It’s bittersweet to know that our mission to diversify means that we cannot be in all places at once and we’re sad to say so long to the loving camaraderie and competitiveness of the LEC. We did not make this decision lightly and ran an exhaustive process vetting numerous interested offer parties and came to the decision that Team Heretics was the right selection to continue on as responsible stewards of the League” said Ben Spoont, CEO of Misfits Gaming.

Misfits Gaming is one of the oldest esports organizations in the LEC ecosystem. The team was formed way back and they made their entrance to LEC back in 2017, when the name of the competition was EU LCS. Firstly, the team competed in the second division of the tournament, EU CS, and clinched a spot by taking down all their opponents. Schalke 04 Esports was next on the menu in the EU LCS 2017 Spring Promotion and that is how Misfits Gaming made it to the big league. Since then, the team has competed in every split of the competition and even got accepted by Riot Games to the franchise league. The Newest Competitor in LEC

Team Heretics, on the other hand, used to compete in the League of Legends scene but they closed the branch after an unsuccessful year in 2017. The organization was founded in 2016. This year though, Team Heretics made their return by acquiring Cream Real Betis’ LVP SL 2022 Spring slot. The organization has been competing in the Spanish League of Legends tournament since the start of the season. The Heretics squad play their hearts out in the Spanish League as they are the leader of the regular season, alongside Giants. We will probably see them play in the EU Masters this year. Team Heretics will be the newest competitor in the LEC though, starting next year.
