Lenovo releases new ThinkStation – half the size, but with lots of computing power

Date:

MORRISVILLE – Lenovo’s newest desktop computer, the ThinkStation P360 Ultra, is half the size of a traditional form factor desktop workstation.

But it still packs a performance punch.

A company statement reads that there is a “new era of hybrid work” that is “here to stay.”  That’s part of the rationale for the workstation, the company statement reads, as workers may now require smaller workspaces.

“We are revolutionizing the market with a new desktop workstation that is purpose built to deliver impressive performance in a space-saving form factor that our customers need,” said Rob Herman, vice president, workstation and client AI business unit at Lenovo, in the statement.

Designed for versatility

“The ThinkStation P360 Ultra is one of the most versatile workstations available given its ability to effortlessly tackle today’s most demanding workflows across industries, whether it’s being used by individual professionals or as an embedded technology within an OEM solution,” said Herman, in the statement.

According to the company, the desktop computer was designed to support high-end professional components, including a dual-sided motherboard with 12th generation Intel Core processors, up to 16 cores at up to 125 watts, a first for the company, it noted in the statement.

The new system will also provide up to 128GB of DDR5 memory, two PCIe Gen 4 slots, 8TB of M.2 storage, and support as many as eight displays, according to the company.  All of that, and the desktop is 15% lighter in weight than the company’s prior offerings, the statement notes.

Lenovo will sell the computer at prices starting at $1,299, and they’ll be available later this month, according to the company.

Lenovo slipped from the top spot in global PC sales in a broader measure of the market earlier this year, surpassed by Apple.  The company also recently announced that it would form a strategic partnership that involved a more than $613 million investment in a Hong Kong technology and media conglomerate to expand its services and solutions offerings in the Asia Pacific.
