LeBron’s Future with Lakers Up in the Air

Date:

LeBron James is set to enter into his 22nd season in the NBA, and continues to hold the title as the oldest player in the league. Nobody knows where LeBron will end up next season, but one thing is for certain. He can still be a key contributor on a contending team.

The king averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 points in his 21st season. He also shot his highest percentage from three in his illustrious career with 41%.

Therefore, there are plenty of avenues LeBron could take this summer. One would be staying in L.A., opting in to his $51.4 million contract. Opting in would also allow LeBron to be eligible for an extension in August, paying him $112 million from ’25 to ’27.

This would almost be certain if the Lakers draft his son, as it is widely known that his dream is to play with Bronny James.

There have been several reports that the Lakers are considering drafting Bronny out of Southern California. Although Bronny has not lived up to the media’s hype, there is the consensus that whoever drafts the one-year college player, will have LeBron’s target as a destination.

If LeBron does enter free agency, he could have a plethora of teams eyeing his services. There is no question that James’ goal is to win his coveted fifth NBA championship, and there are contending teams that are well-equipped to give LeBron the help he deserves.

There are potential suitors for the 39-year-old, should he consider jumping ship are the Knicks, 76ers, Warriors, or a young Oklahoma City Thunder.

Even though there are rumors that James has made up his mind or thought about where he will end up, his decision isn’t close.

LeBron had a response for allegations that his future has already been discussed. In a recent tweet, LeBron reinstates that next season is very much up in the air. “I do not know yet as I’m only thinking about spending time with my family,” he said Tuesday night.

It will likely take more than his son to pry LeBron James out of Los Angeles, given that the contract he would sign elsewhere would be insufficient in comparison to if he were to opt in.

The only person who will have to feel motivated to pack his bags and move his family will be LeBron. So until free agency rolls around, it will likely be a quiet few months from the king, as he is spending time with his family and ponders his options.
