LCO Split 2 2023: Wolves versus cubs in fiery Week 2 encounter

Date:

Our teams are ready to hit the Summoners Rift, fighting for a top-two seed to compete in the PCS playoffs–their chance at Worlds in South Korea. With a brand new best-of-two format, which teams will succeed?

  • PGG v MEC, KNG v GZG secure back-to-back ties
  • KNG secure a sub twenty minute victory
  • Games resume Tuesday, June 13 @ 6pm

Last Tuesday night opened with a series between Pentanet and Mammoth.

During the first game, Pentanet’s Violet on Aphelios swiftly took control, but Mammoth soon stole it back in a convincing fashion thanks to DaJeung’s Neeko ults. Chayon also found redemption after his time on Peace last split with a carry performance on Jinx taking them to the first win.

It was enough to spark something within Pentanet who came back in game two with a vengeance, drafting a Neeko of their own for DONGGY. Shernfire became well acquainted with the botlane, leading to constant tower dives. The team was absolutely relentless, and refused to give way on their path to the Nexus, securing a series tie.

Kanga Esports and the newly rebranded Ground Zero Gaming wrapped things up that evening with a competitive series of their own.

Game one saw Jayke making his return to pro play after almost four years, and by the way his team looked, it was like he never left. Fighto took to the front lines on Cassiopeia, leading his team to a notably swift victory in under twenty minutes.

In the following match, Ground Zero made it very clear that they weren’t simply going to be run over. In similar fashion to the previous series, revenge was oh so sweet as Tron’s Olaf dominated Kanga with a performance perfectly worthy of the series MVP. Just like that, the tie was secured.

After having Monday to relax, Team Bliss and Mammoth will kick things off this evening followed by a battle between the Wolfpacks as Vertex and the Dire Wolves face off for the first time.

We’re covering everything LCO Split 2; streams, schedule, rosters, and more.

LCO Split 2 2023 Schedule & Results

There have been some major changes to the format of the LCO ahead of Split 2 this June. The round-robin stage will be played in best-of-twos as opposed to the former two separate best-of-one matches.

Points will be allocated depending on the results, with three awarded for a victorious flawless series, and one point to each team for a 1-1 outcome. Side selections will be submitted from both teams prior to the beginning of a series.

By the end of the round-robin, the top six teams will move into the next stage.

Rather than seeding into groups, the LCO has opted in favour of a double elimination playoffs bracket to give all teams a fighting chance.

The top two teams in our LCO playoffs will seed respectively for PCS playoffs, where they’ll be competing for a shot at Worlds in South Korea in October.
