Jenkins started off slowly at Michigan, but really made an impact over the last two seasons. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a three-star recruit in the class of 2020, Jenkins signed with Michigan out of Maryland. He played in just one game as a freshman before starting four games as a sophomore. In his sophomore season, Jenkins had 22 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. He was a full-time starter in 2022, registering 54 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. His play helped Michigan go undefeated and make the College Football Playoff. He returned for his senior season, creating an impact with 37 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Jenkins led Michigan all the way to a National Championship Game win.
Following the National Championship win for Michigan, Jenkins declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second or third-round pick.
Kris Jenkins Strengths
Jenkins has solid size for an NFL defensive lineman. He stands at 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds, which is solid, but it also looks like he can add more to his frame. Jenkins has good strength and power currently, even if he can add to his frame. His frame comes with solid length too, which he uses to disengage.
He is a good run defender in a few different ways. Jenkins diagnoses where plays are going quickly. He can shed decently well and then go make plays on the ball. He maintains good gap integrity, which doesn’t give much room for running backs to get though a hole near him.
His hands are strong and help him disengage. He strikes offensive linemen with good timing and placement. Jenkins keeps his hands active throughout a play and keeps his motor working as well to shed blocks.
Kris Jenkins Weaknesses
Jenkins will not offer much as a pass rusher. He doesn’t have a good pass-rush game plan for each snap. Jenkins also needs to add more pass-rush moves to his arsenal to be more effective as well. He could be a two-down player at the next level.
While he does have good strength for taking on one one-on-one blocks, he does struggle with double teams. Double-team blocks overwhelm him and he can’t shed. There are a lot of times where he can’t take on the double teams and is blocked out of the way, which allows offenses to pick up a decent amount of yards.
He can be a good team defender, but doesn’t make a lot of plays. That is fine for an interior defensive lineman, but a team looking for sacks or tackles for loss might be disappointed. Jenkins can hop into the NFL and fulfill a role for a team.
