The brand new upcoming Dragon quest The Adventure of Dai is a much anticipated entry to the series. Rehashing the once popular anime and manga, The Adventure of Dai follows the canonical story which was showcased in the prior media. And fans are eagerly waiting for the game’s release. But is the game multiplayer?

Unfortunately, The Adventure of Dai is a solely single player game. This means, for fans wanting to experience the story anew with a loved one, the second player will have to watch from the couch. There is no cooperative play built into the game whatsoever.

The trailer showcases other characters fighting alongside the player — but these are NPCs, similar to the Tales series. Other players will not be able to join in on the adventure. It appears the game is an action based JRPG, with gorgeous cut scenes. Though it’s unclear whether the game will be good or not, it’s very evident the cut scenes and voice acting will deliver.
For those wanting a multiplayer Dragon Quest game, they may be better opting for Dragon Quest Heroes 2 or Dragon Quest Builders 2. These both quite the extensive multiplayer experience, and are built into the Dragon Quest universe. Builders plays far more like a building game, with action elements very much secondary.
On the other hand, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is a more action based game — very much a musou style game with RPG elements sprinkled throughout.
