The IQT Vancouver/Pacific Rim conference in June 2024 will feature Scott Genin, Vice President of Materials Discovery at Canadian company OTI Lumionics Inc. Genin’s pioneering work in the computational design and synthesis of novel materials for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) places him at the cutting edge of technology and materials science. His leadership in developing algorithms to simulate molecules and material properties on quantum computers is set to significantly impact the field of materials discovery and the broader quantum computing application landscape.

With a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from Queen’s University and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, Genin’s academic background provides a solid foundation for his innovative work at OTI Lumionics. His experience in the pharmaceutical industry before joining OTI Lumionics has contributed to a diverse skill set that enhances his approach to materials discovery, leveraging both classical and quantum computational techniques.

At OTI Lumionics, Genin manages a team focused on the next generation of OLED materials, aiming to improve the efficiency, color range, and lifespan of OLED technologies. This work is critical for advancing display technologies and has applications in smartphones, TVs, and beyond, where superior image quality and energy efficiency are in high demand.

During the IQT Vancouver/Pacific Rim conference, Genin is expected to discuss the intersection of quantum computing and materials science, sharing insights into how quantum algorithms can revolutionize how we design and discover new materials. His presentation will likely cover the challenges and opportunities of simulating molecular and material properties using quantum computers, the potential for quantum computing to accelerate materials discovery processes, and the impact of these advancements on industries reliant on novel materials, such as electronics and photonics.
