The Miami Dolphins join the teams who’ve let go parts of their staff as their offseason officially begins. Defensive coordinator Josh Boyer has been fired after the team made the playoffs for the first time since 2016, getting bounced by their AFC East rivals, the Bills.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
This was Boyer’s first defensive coordinator job in the NFL, graduating to the position in 2020. He joined the team in 2019. His NFL career prior to that was spent entirely with the New England Patriots. He spent 2006-2018 with the Pats, as a defensive assistant, DBs coach and CBs coach. Boyer won three Super Bowls with New England.
The Dolphins finished 18th in yards per game allowed, 24th in points per game allowed, but, strangely, were fourth in both passing and rushing yards per attempt. This paints a picture of an uneven defense, which sums up their season a bit on that side of the ball.
