Democratic mayoral Eric Adams, New York City’s top candidate, stated that within one year he would make the city into a Bitcoin hub to compete with Miami as the centerpiece of America’s crypto culture.

“I guarantee you, you’ll see another city in one year […]. We are going to be the center of life science, the center of cyber safety, the center for self-driving vehicles, drones, the center of Bitcoin ” Adams claimed that the primaries were closed on Tuesday following the vote.

Adams is presently in the lead, while Bitcoin lover Andrew Yang, who has also stated that he would make the city into a Bitcoin hub, fell away from the campaign when he was second at the polls.

Earlier, The New York State Assembly Restricted Crypto Mining 

Earlier this month, the state assembly of New York rejected a plan to restrict crypto mining for environmental grounds. It had passed through the state senate after Senator Kevin Parker recommended that the state should restrict Bitcoin mining for three years to assess its environmental effect, particularly its greenhouse gas emissions. 

If Adams is elected and follows through on his vow to transform New York City into a Bitcoin hub, the city will compete with Miami as the heart of the US crypto community.

New York City Would Dethrone Miami, Emerging As A Hub For Cryptocurrency Usage

Miami has dominated the scene in recent months, as its mayor, Francis Suarez, has campaigned for Bitcoin acceptance and stated his intention to create Miami the world’s crypto capital.

Thousands of crypto enthusiasts gathered in Miami earlier this month to attend the Bitcoin 2021 Miami and Shitcoin 2021 conferences, despite the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. 

Bitcoin 2021 is the largest yearly crypto event, with attendees like Jack Dorsey, Michael Saylor, and the Winklevoss twins.

El Salvador’s President also used the conference to introduce a measure that would make Bitcoin legal money in the Central American country, which he successfully passed the following week in Congress. “Miami, you had your run, and now we’re bringing our companies back!” Adams said on Tuesday.
