Ducks Unable to Hold Predators Back Anaheim’s Skid Reaches 3 Games

Date:

The Anaheim Ducks losing streak reached three games after they fell Sunday to the Predators 4-2.

Four different Predators scored Sunday; Filip Forseberg, Roman Josie, Michael McCarron and Gustav Nyquist. Dante Fabbro added two assists on the night and Filip Forseberg added one assist as well for the multi point game. For the Ducks it was Isac Lundestom adding his third goal of the season and Brett Leason scoring. Leason was the only Duck to have a multi point game as he added an assist as well. Adam Henrique and Mason McTavish added their 22nd assist of the season each.

The Ducks took a tough loss before the game even started as they were without star Troy Terry who is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury he sustained Saturday against Columbus.

In net it was Lukas Dostal getting the nod who had not started since giving up nine goals to Toronto on the 17th. Dostal had a decent night in goal. He had shutout the Predators for 20 minutes, but a rough third ended up costing the Ducks the game.

Things started out as a goalie battle with both tenders refusing to give up a goal in the first.

However, the second period would not go scoreless and it took just one minute into the second for Roman Josi’s point-slap shot to find the night, giving Nashville an early 1-0 lead. It was Filip Forsberg and Dante Fabbro who had the assists.

At 11:55 in the second the home Ducks would give the Honda Center something to cheer about as Isac Lundestrom’s wrist shot found the net. Brett Leason and Max Jones were credited for the assist.

After two period of close hockey, it would be a lot of the same for the Ducks as the third period was all Nashville.

3:26 into the period Filip Foresberg’s second point of the night, a wrist shot, would give the Preds a one goal lead. At 8:43 Michael McCarron would double down for Nashville as the Ducks turned things over in their own zone, and he would tip in a Dante Fabbro shot on goal.

Anaheim once again like so many times this year found themselves needing a third period comeback in a 3-1 game. Brett Leason’s tip in with under two and a half minutes to go would get the Ducks back in a one goal game.

Dostal would head to the bench for Anaheim to get the extra attacker, but it only ended with an empty net goal from the Predators as Gustav Nyquist would bury the Ducks.

Although the Ducks turnover numbers were down compared to the first two games of this losing streak, however once again turnovers lead directly to a goal for the Ducks opponents.

Dostal was decent on the night stopping 26 of 29 shots, but it really was the defensive effort to blame, not Lukas Dostal. The Ducks once again struggled with puck control and it directly contributed to their loss.

The Ducks get a few days off before traveling to San Jose Thursday to play division rival the Sharks.

Puck drop will be at 10:30 P.M. EST and 7:30 P.M. PST. You can catch the action on NBCSCA, BSSD, BSSC, and NHL PowerPlay on ESPN+
