CS:GO: How to Use The Scout (SSG 08)?

Date:

Some simple tips on how to use the Scout in CS:GO.

Although there are tons of weapons you can choose from once you start playing CS:GO, most people are fans of the AWP. The “green weapon” is famous for the fact it can one-shot enemies at any distance, as long as you don’t hit them in the leg. This makes it one of the most potent weapons in the game.

Despite its strength and popularity, the AWP has one big weakness, and that’s the price. Whether you are a Terrorist or a Counter-Terrorist, you will have to pay a lot to get the weapon. Needless to say, you also need to think about armor and all sorts of other accessories that will also impact your economy.

Even though it is not as effective as the AWP, the Scout is an excellent weapon that you can put to the test. Also known as the SSG 08, this is a weapon that costs significantly less than other popular options. This gun has numerous other advantages, so let’s go over some of them.

Interesting stats

One of the first and most important things that make the Scout so popular is its price. This weapon costs just $1700, which makes it almost 3x less expensive than the AWP. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why some people purchase it early on.

The item usually does 88 damage and has a fire rate of 48 rounds per minute. One of the things that players should be aware of before using it is its reload time. The weapon needs 3.7 seconds to reload, which is more than other popular rifles.

If you manage to kill someone while using the SSG 08, you will get $300 in competitive and $150 in casual. The Scout has a magazine capacity of 10 and a reserve ammo limit of 90. This means that it is almost impossible to run out of ammo, even if you use this weapon through the round.

A weapon with amazing movement speed

One of the first things that makes this weapon special is its movement speed. The so-called Running speed or units per second is an indicator that shows you the speed at which you run while having this weapon equipped. Even though the knife allows you to be way faster than usual (it has 250 UPS), the Scout is very close because it has 230 Units per second. In other words, this is one of the weapons that will allow you to move faster around the map. Some players might think that this is not important, but it can make a huge difference in situations where you have to be fast.

Make sure you aim for a headshot

While it is true that the Scout is capable of doing a lot of damage, this is true only when it comes down to landing a headshot. Unlike the AWP, which will allow you to get a one-shot kill if you hit someone in the body, you won’t land a kill with the Scout. The only way to kill someone with one hit is if the target has low HP or you land a headshot. Since you don’t know whether the given target was hit before, you should always try to aim for a headshot.

Use the “peek and shoot” strategy

As mentioned earlier, the Scout resembles the AWP in many ways because it has a scope and can (potentially) kill someone with one shot. Even though this gun has some drawbacks, it also has a lot of advantages, such as the fact that you can use the so-called “peek and shoot” strategy. The latter usually resembles the situation where people use their scope before peeking to fire at their opponents.

While it is true that this tactic might work if you decide to use an AWP, it won’t go well against people who know what you’re doing. Since the AWP is heavy, you will have a slow movement speed. What’s more, the opponents’ AWPer might be aware that you are about to peek; so the chances of dying are even higher.

Despite the fact that the peek and shoot strat is not always good, it can be way more effective if you have a Scout. Since the weapon allows you to move faster, it’s more accurate and you don’t need to use the “A + D” key combo all the time. In fact, you can simply show yourself and shoot right away, without the need to do the so-called “counter-strafing”.

Scout allows you to do “jump shots”

One of the things that the Scout was known for in CS:GO was the so-called “jump shots”. Before the nerfs, people could jump, shoot with their scope, and land lucky headshots with little to no effort. Needless to say, Valve decided to nerf this a couple of years ago, so it shouldn’t be surprising that landing those types of kills is not as easy as it once was.

However, this doesn’t mean it is impossible because you can definitely do some awesome trick shots while using this weapon. Another thing that could work in some cases is to fire with your weapon while you are at the peak of your jump. This means that you have to open your scope jump, and once your “character” reaches the highest spot, you can fire. In most cases, this should allow you to land a clean shot, which will surprise your opponents.

Speaking of jump shots, some people also do the so-called “flying and stoping”, followed by a shot. To do this, you have to jump and press the button in the opposite direction. In other words, if you jump to the left, you have to press “D”, whereas if you do that on the right, you have to press “S”. This will fake your jump and allow you to shoot mid-air and land a clean shot on your opponent.

Regardless of what you want to do while using this weapon, you need to practice as much as possible in order to get better. This is easier said than done, but once you put in the time, you will eventually master this weapon and learn how to use it to your advantage.
