Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. CFP Four
1. Michigan Wolverines (13-0)
Michigan completed an undefeated season and with the results of conference championship week, should be the top seed in the CFP.
2. Washington Huskies (13-0)
Washington also completed an undefeated season. They move up to the second spot due to the results of the SEC Championship Game.
3. Florida State Seminoles (13-0)
Florida State is being heavily debated. They are undefeated and won the ACC Championship, but their starting quarterback, Jordan Travis, is out for the season. The undefeated record should matter and put the Seminoles in.
4. Texas Longhorns (12-1)
Texas takes the fourth spot in the CFP due to their win over Alabama on the road. The Longhorns also only lost one game and won the Big 12 Championship. While head-to-head doesn’t count for everything, it should be enough for the committee to take the Longhorns.
First Four Out
5. Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1)
Alabama was able to win the SEC Championship with just one loss overall in the season. Most years that is enough to get into the CFP. This year though, the SEC struggled in the non-conference and Alabama lost to Texas at home, making it hard to justify a jump into the top four.
6. Georgia Bulldogs (12-1)
Georgia won every game in the regular season, but lost in the SEC Championship Game. They will have a case to make the CFP, as they are one of the four best teams in the country, but the results on the field will likely work against them.
7. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)
Ohio State had a path to the CFP if a few more results went their way. Ultimately, not playing in the final weekend before the teams were announced did them in.
8. Oregon Ducks (10-2)
Oregon was favored, but could not win the Pac-12 Championship Game against Washington. They only lost to the Huskies this season and should be heading to a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.
Next Four Out
9. Ole Miss Rebels (10-2)
The committee should be reevaluating all their rankings and not just the top four. Ole Miss lost to just Alabama and Georgia. They have a nice win over LSU. They deserve the ninth spot.
10. Missouri Tigers (10-2)
Missouri has two wins over ranked teams by the CFP. Neither would be a marquee win, but the Tigers have done enough to stay in the top 10.
11. Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2)
Not getting over the hump of beating either Ohio State or Michigan ultimately did Penn State in again this season, but they still rank highly.
12. Oklahoma Sooners (10-2)
Oklahoma will likely stay in the 12th spot in the CFP rankings after not playing this week.
