College Football Playoff Bracketology October 8

Date:

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 8.

CFP Four

1. Florida State Seminoles (5-0)

Florida State defeated Virginia Tech this week, 39-17. The win won’t do much for the Seminoles, but they already have a good start to the season with wins over LSU and Clemson.

This week: vs. Syracuse Orange (4-2)

2. Oklahoma Sooners (6-0)

The Sooners pulled off the upset over Texas for their first notable win of the year. With other teams losing, Oklahoma deserves to move up to the top four for having such a big win.

This week: BYE

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)

Things started slowly for the Buckeyes, but they defeated an undefeated Maryland team in week 6. Their win over Notre Dame looks a little worse after the Fighting Irish lost to Louisville, but should still be solid for their CFP case.

This week: at Purdue Boilermakers (2-4)

4. Georgia Bulldogs (6-0)

Georgia walloped a ranked Kentucky team 51-19 in week 6. It was their first tough game of the season and they performed at an elite level. That helps move them up a ton in these rankings.

This week: at Vanderbilt Commodores (2-5)

First Four Out

5. Louisville Cardinals (6-0)

Jeff Brohm helped lead the Cardinals to an upset win over Notre Dame, 33-20. The Cardinals now have a marquee win, but also have five wins over power five opponents.

This week: at Pittsburgh Panthers (1-4)

6. Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0)

Penn State didn’t have a game in week 6, but maintains a high ranking. Their wins over Iowa and West Virginia are decent. They can further their case by beating better teams and they’ll get a chance soon against Ohio State.

This week: vs. UMass Minutemen (1-6)

7. Oregon Ducks (5-0)

Oregon was also off this week. Their win over Colorado is bolstering their resume, but tougher games are approaching.

This week: at Washington Huskies (5-0)

8. Washington Huskies (5-0)

Both Washington and Oregon had byes this week as they prepare to face each other. Washington has defeated Boise State and Arizona for some solid wins this season.

This week: vs. Oregon Ducks (5-0)

Next Four Out

9. Michigan Wolverines (6-0)

Michigan notched a dominant win over Minnesota to already get to bowl eligibility. They rank so low in these rankings simply because they haven’t had the opportunity to play great competition yet. Based on the eye test they look much better than this ranking.

This week: vs. Indiana Hoosiers (2-3)

10. USC Trojans (6-0)

USC struggled to beat Arizona, who was starting a backup quarterback, but the important thing is that they came away with the win. The Trojans have had an easier schedule to start the season, but now go into a tough stretch that could make or break them.

This week: at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-2)

11. North Carolina Tar Heels (5-0)

It was a great week for the Tar Heels, as they defeated Syracuse 40-7 and had wide receiver Tez Walker ruled eligible by the NCAA. UNC has four power five wins and their group of five win was over Appalachian State. They have plenty of time to build their case for the CFP.

This week: vs. Miami Hurricanes (4-1)

12. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1)

Alabama may have thought the sky was falling earlier this season, but they won a tough game at Texas A&M to show they are back on track. They lead the SEC West and should be favored in every game for the rest of the season.

This week: vs. Arkansas Razorbacks (2-4)
