College Football Playoff Bracketology October 22

Date:

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology October 22.

CFP Four

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0)

While it hasn’t always been pretty this season, Ohio State now has two really good wins. They won at Notre Dame in September and defeated an undefeated Penn State team this week. Their defense looks much improved over past seasons.

This week: at Wisconsin Badgers (5-2)

2. Florida State Seminoles (7-0)

Florida State opened the year off with a solid win over LSU. They have since now defeated Clemson (although that win doesn’t look as good anymore) and now Duke, who was ranked. Duke quarterback Riley Leonard kept things close, but had to exit the game with an injury. The Seminoles still took care of business and have won some big games this season.

This week: at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-3)

3. Washington Huskies (7-0)

It wasn’t how they usually win, but Washington defeated Arizona State 15-7. The win won’t help their case to be in the CFP too much, but they stayed undefeated. Their victory over Oregon still holds as one of the best wins of the season.

This week: at Stanford Cardinal (2-5)

4. Oklahoma Sooners (7-0)

The Sooners had a close one against UCF, but found a way to win. They stay in the top four because of their win over Texas, but they could get jumped soon, as their upcoming schedule doesn’t have a lot of marquee games.

This week: at Kansas Jayhawks (5-2)

First Four Out

5. Georgia Bulldogs (7-0)

Georgia had a bye in week 8. They don’t have a win over a currently ranked team, which is why they reside outside the top four. Their schedule should give them a chance to notch some better wins coming up.

This week: vs. Florida Gators (5-2)

6. Michigan Wolverines (8-0)

Michigan got another dominant win, this time over their in-state rivals Michigan State. Like Georgia, Michigan lacks a true great win, which holds them back from being in the top four. They have a few big opportunities down the stretch to improve their resume.

This week: BYE

7. Texas Longhorns (6-1)

Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers had to leave the game against Houston with an injury, but the Longhorns still got a win. They are 6-1 with a win over Alabama, which makes them one of the more viable one-loss teams in the country.

This week: vs. BYU Cougars (5-2)

8. Oregon Ducks (6-1)

Oregon notched a win over Washington State in week 8. Their only loss of the season was to Washington and they need to keep winning to get a rematch in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

This week: at Utah Utes (6-1)

9. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-1)

The Crimson Tide went down early, but came back and earned a win over Tennessee, who was ranked. Alabama lost to Texas earlier this season, but have rebounded well and have stayed in contention for the College Football Playoff.

This week: BYE

10. Ole Miss Rebels (6-1)

Ole Miss defeated Auburn on the road this week. While that win doesn’t do much for their case in the rankings, the Rebels still have good wins over Tulane and LSU.

11. Oregon State Beavers (6-1)

Oregon State was off this week. They have wins over Utah and UCLA for some nice wins. The Beavers are still very much alive in the Pac-12 race.

This week: at Arizona Wildcats (4-3)

12. Utah Utes (6-1)

Utah was able to pull off a big upset over USC, knocking them out of the CFP picture. The Utes have that win and a victory over UCLA to help their ranking. Their loss to Oregon State holds them back in the rankings, but they still have a few big games on the schedule to prove themselves.

This week: vs. Oregon Ducks (6-1)
