Dr. Nadya T. Bliss, CCC Council Vice Chair and Executive Director of the Global Security Initiative (GSI) at Arizona State University (ASU), was just recognized as a Top 50 Women Leaders of Arizona for 2023 by Women We Admire.
In her current position at ASU Dr. Bliss leads research, education, and programming for national and global security. Additionally, she currently holds a Professor of Practice appointment at the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence and is a Senior Global Futures Scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. With over 20 years of leadership experience in science, technology, defense, security, and higher education, Bliss has a deep understanding of the technology transition pipeline. She is an accomplished author with over 80 publications, holds two patents, and frequently speaks on technology development and national security, having been featured in several media outlets.
Along with her role as Vice Chair of the Computing Community Consortium, Bliss plays active roles in several service boards and national committees. She is currently the chair of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Information Science and Technology study group (DARPA ISAT), serves on the National Academies Climate Security Roundtable, and on the National Academies Forum on Cyber Resilience.
Before leading GSI, Bliss held various positions at ASU and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Her most recent role at MIT was as the founding group leader of the Computing and Analytics Group, managing high-performance computing and advanced analytics for the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community missions.
Bliss holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Cornell University and a doctorate in applied mathematics for life and social sciences from ASU.
Bliss has made many contributions to our organization through her time with the CCC. Since joining as a council member in 2017, she has contributed to a number of white papers including An Agenda for Disinformation Research and A Research Ecosystem on Secure Computing, served as a key organizer on CCC’s Code 8.7 Workshop on Applying AI in the Fight Against Modern Slavery Workshop, and was featured on the late CCC podcast Catalyzing Computing in Episode 27 and 28 “Global Security and Graph Analytics with Nadya Bliss”.
