Bitdefender, the popular cybersecurity company, has released its previously Android-only Scam Alert feature for iOS devices.
The feature in question scans your SMS messages and calendar invites for potential malware, preventing them from reaching your device in the first place. It compares any links in your messages or calendar against Bitdefender’s database of known malware, searching for similarities.
While SMS messaging is a staple of how we communicate in our daily lives, it’s a massive vector for cybercriminals who distribute viruses, trojans, malware, and worse through normal-looking links.
Criminals take advantage of social engineering techniques by spreading fake voice messages, posing as bill collectors, informing you of a prize or lottery winning, impersonating your bank, job, or even sometimes family, and other unsavory techniques to convince you to click their malicious links.
Criminals will also create fake calendar invites and send them out en masse, tricking unsuspecting users into clicking the invite and leaving themselves vulnerable.

Bitdefender assures its customers that while Scam Alert will scan through your texts and calendar, it won’t actually collect any of your data.
Besides Scam Alert, Bitdefender Mobile Security for iOS includes anti-phishing protection, a VPN, data breach monitoring, and a vulnerability scanner to keep your apps secure. It builds off iOS’s naturally strong security features while protecting you against malicious links and websites.
