During its inaugural meeting that was hosted on Twitter Spaces, the newly formed Bitcoin Mining Council publicly announced its aim to deal with negative media narratives that have been plaguing the crypto landscape for quite some time now.
In the event, the council discussed the bad publicity that has been haunting bitcoin and its mining industry led by China’s ongoing crackdown operations against crypto mining operators.
The effects of the country’s drive were so tremendous that bitcoin mining has been restricted in regions like Inner Mongolia and miners are now looking for new places to set up their business.
Rocking the space
For a while now, concerns over energy consumption and pollution related to digital currency mining activities have been the source of a turbulent force that’s rocking the crypto space these days.
This has led to a strong clamor by industry players for more options for greener and more efficient bitcoin mining, with some experts encouraging the transition from the use of fossil fuel energy to more sustainable ways like the use of hydropower to facilitate mining activities.
In light of this matter, during the public Twitter-hosted meeting attended by over 7,000 participants, the MBC outlined its objectives, including combating the negative publicity that bitcoin has had to deal with.
Curbing the negative publicity
In order to offset the negative press that surrounds the world’s largest cryptocurrency, members of the council have thought of getting ahead of the media.
MicroStrategy Chief Executive Michael Saylor, who was a vital part of the talks between bitcoin miners and Tesla’s Elon Musk that gave birth to the BMC, said he was worried about the negative narratives from influencing political decisions against bitcoin.
The CEO also said the council is not here to fit bitcoin, but simply to protect it from the people who misunderstand it.
