Tickets have been sold out in 8 minutes for the first official Axie Infinity meetup in the Philippines, which will take place on June 14, 2022 at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
The update was shared by Nix Eniego, Philippines lead of Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis.
For those who failed to get a slot, Eniego guaranteed that Axie Infinity will do “more events like this, not just in Manila, not just in the Philippines, but all over the world through our Axie IRL meetup program!”
Axie Infinity will also have an upcoming physical event in Barcelona, Spain
Prior to the upcoming meetup, Sky Mavis Representatives; Programs lead Andrew Campbell, Latin America Lead Axie Lima and E-sports manager Stewart, arrived in the Philippines for theThe Axie: Origin Championship.
The Origin Championship was a tournament for the free-to-play version of Axie Infinity. Last December, the Philippines also hosted the first creators cup. (Read more: First Ever Axie Infinity Creator Cup)
In September, an Axie Convention is set to be held in Barcelona, Spain.
Recently, Axie Infinity also announced on Twitter that there will be token-gated community discussions hosted by Commonwealth, a platform for on-chain communities to discuss, vote, and fund projects. (Read more: Axie Infinity Reveals Token Gated Community)
This month, Nix Eniego confirmed to BitPinas that Globe Telecom, one of the leading telecommunication service providers in the Philippines, is proposing partnerships with Sky Mavis. This is after the telecom company expressed their desire to team up with play-to-earn publishers to “elevate gaming experience” in the country. Still, as the game further moves forward, its revenue continues to slide down; in fact, according to the data provided by the Block, Axie Infinity only brought in $988,400 in revenue for the first week of June — the first week it logged less than $1 million since February of 2021. This is a 99.5% decrease from its peak where it had over $215 million during the week of August 8, 2021.
So far, the value of Smooth Love Potion (SLP), one of the game’s tokens that is convertible to fiat, is still stagnant at less than a peso since November 2021. SLP has been the saving grace of several Filipinos that have been left displaced and jobless by the global pandemic.
