In his second season, he played sparingly with two total tackles. He transferred to Kansas for the 2023 season. With the Jayhawks, he posted 56 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss and eight sacks. His play helped Kansas win nine games.

Following the 2023 season, Booker declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.

Austin Booker Strengths

Booker has a solid frame for an NFL edge rusher. He stands 6-foot-4 and 1/2 inches and 240 pounds, which is a solid starting point for a pro career. His arm length is also nice, as they measure at 33 and 7/8 inches, which helps him shed blocks.

He is a good pass rusher and proved it in his one season at Kansas. Booker can convert speed to power well. He also has a lot of nice pass rush moves including a long arm and a Eurostep. Booker is technically refined and can produce as a rusher at the NFL level.

His athleticism is solid. Booker has good burst at the snap of the ball. That quick first step sets him up for success on most plays. He also has good lateral agility, which helps him elude blocks. Booker is flexible and can bend around the edge.

Austin Booker Weaknesses

Booker can do a better job at run defense. He can set a better edge to help force runs inside. Booker can also shed quicker to help him make more plays on the ball. He has good pursuit, but often can get off his blocks to go after the ball carrier.

He has a good starting point for an NFL frame, but he can fill out his frame a bit more. With more muscle, he could shed better and develop a bull rush. He already converts speed to power well, but a little more strength could make him more effective.

His technique can improve, specifically with his pad level. He lets his pad level get too high, which makes him lose power. This makes him get held up on blocks, as he can’t shed. He needs to keep his pad level down and keep his leverage.
