After missing plenty of snaps in the regular season already, and missing two games entirely, the Indianapolis Colts are shutting down Anthony Richardson. He is undergoing season-ending surgery on his shoulder.
The Colts’ official Twitter account reported the news on Wednesday.
Richardson was selected with the fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. Most scouts and pundits saw him as a high-ceiling, but extremely raw pick who may not start right away. He did, in fact, earn the starting spot and placed Gardner Minshew in the backup role.
In his four games in the NFL, Richardson has a completion percentage of 59.5, and thrown for 577 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He’s also rushed 25 times for 136 yards and four more scores, but also three fumbles. Minshew will likely be the starter for the remainder of the season moving forward.
