OpenSea Adds Avalanche Support in Heady Week for NFTs
Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins made his first foray into NFTs on Thursday, and collectors snapped up the 1,000 NFTs on sale within a matter of minutes.
The Eternal collection is inspired by the wide array of characters that Hopkins played over the course of his film career and was launched on OpenSea. Initially scheduled for 3 pm ET, the drop was delayed by around 45 minutes due to technical issues caused by “huge demand.”
When it resumed, the collection sold out in under seven minutes, according to Orange Comet, the company that collaborated with the two-time Oscar winner on the project.
“Looks like I have the capacity to crash the internet in one single leap 🚀 Thank you, everyone. I couldn’t have imagined this outcome,” the artist tweeted after the sale was concluded.

Minted for 0.25 ETH ($325) apiece, the floor price of the collection currently stands at 0.89 ETH ($1,150). NFT holders have a chance to win personalized NFTs from Hopkins, an autographed art book, and a Zoom call with the man himself.
“We’re grateful to the amazing fans who have made this the fastest primary drop in OpenSea’s history. We eagerly await the fan reaction on October 20 when the NFTs are finally revealed,” said Dave Broome, CEO of Orange Comet.
Hopkins has indicated his interest in Web3 for some time now, adding an ENS domain to his Twitter profile back in May. “Entering the space of NFT is like being on the moon. In awe of the limitless dimensions of technology and art,” he tweeted on Oct. 12.
OpenSea Adds Avalanche Support
On Oct. 11, leading NFT marketplace OpenSea went live on Avalanche, a proof-of-stake blockchain with nearly $1.5B in total value locked (TVL).
The NFT market on Avalanche is nascent but growing and OpenSea has onboarded popular collections like Chikn and Conscious Lines.
Around $150K worth of NFTs were traded on Avalanche in the past day, according to Avax NFT Stats.
State of the Market
Secondary sales volumes turned lower again, with $118M traded in the week ending October 10. This represents a decrease of 4% over the previous week. However, there was a slight uptick in the number of transactions, which increased by 4% to 450,000.
