We are excited to announce that Maria Heeter has joined The Information as a venture capital reporter covering late-stage private startups, venture capital investors and IPOs.

Before joining The Information, Maria covered real estate at Bloomberg News, led the student newspaper of the Claremont Colleges and reported on business and Covid-19 for The Sacramento Bee. In 2022, Heeter graduated with a degree in economics from Scripps College.

Last summer, on the Bloomberg real estate team, she helped break two deals on housing by private equity firms, including Blackstone’s stake in a $784 million student housing portfolio. The prior year, as an intern at the Sacramento Bee, she broke the news that Airbnb, in a first for the rental site, would pursue legal action against a tenant for hosting a party that ended in a shooting.

Those internships gave her such a bug for real estate reporting that she switched her thesis to focus on the relationship between housing prices and rental prices.
