6 Small Forward Targets for the San Antonio Spurs

Date:

With Keldon Johnson in trade rumors, the Spurs may look to upgrade at the small forward position this offseason. They may also make Jeremy Sochan their small forward if Johnson is traded. If not, here are some players that they should be targeting.

Kelly Oubre Jr.

Kelly Oubre Jr. is an elite athlete that could slot in as the starting small forward position. Oubre is a streaky shooter, but also a solid defender.

Oubre averaged 20.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists last season for the Hornets. She shot 42.1% from the field but only 30.8% from three.

He would add another elite athlete to the Spurs and would help improve their lackluster defense.

Matisse Thybulle

Matisse Thybulle is a great defender but not really a threat offensively. Thybulle was traded to the Trail Blazers last season by the 76ers.

Thybulle averaged 4.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists last season. He shot 43.5% from the field and 36.5% from three.

He would add great defense to a team that needs it and some offensive firepower. Although his numbers don’t show it, Thybulle can knock down shots when he needs to.

He is a restricted free agent so the Blazers can match any offer he accepts.

Cameron Johnson

Cameron Johnson is coming off of a season that saw him traded from the Suns to the Nets in the Kevin Durant trade. He is a consistent three-point shooter that would be perfect for the Spurs off the bench.

Johnson averaged 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season. He also shot 47.4% from the field and 45.5% from three.

Johnson would add great three-point shooting and a solid role player. He is a restricted free agent, so the Nets can match any offer he receives.

OG Anunoby

OG Anunoby has been in trade rumors for multiple years. With the Raptors firing head coach Nick Nurse, they may focus on a rebuild. Anunoby would be one of the first ones gone if they go that route.

Anunoby averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season. He shot 47.6% from the field and 38.7% from three.

OG would add a great defender and reliable scorer to the Spurs’ roster. They would have to trade for him and that may be tricky if the Raptors want as much as they reportedly did last year with three first round picks.

Jarace Walker

Jarace Walker is projected as a top ten pick and has already worked out with the Spurs prior to the NBA Draft.

Walker averaged 11.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his freshman season in Houston. He shot 46.5% from the field and 34.7% from three.

Walker is a great defender and rim protector thanks to his 7-2 wing span. He doesn’t shoot the three very well but he may be able to improve after getting drafted.

The Spurs would have to trade up inside the top ten to get him.

Bilal Coulibaly

Bilal Coulibaly would be perfect for the Spurs. A teammate of Victor Wembanyama on the Metroplitans 92, he is a great athlete and defender.

Coulibaly averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists last season in France. He shot 52.8% from the field and 35.4% from three.

He needs to improve his outside shooting, but overall he is a great raw prospect.

Coulibaly is projected as a late first round pick that the Spurs could trade up for using their second round picks.

The Spurs should look to add one of these offseason targets to their roster next season.
