College football week 13 is in the books. After every week fans can take away things from what happened on the field. Here are 5 things learned from college football week 13.

1. Oregon will play Washington in the Pac-12 Championship

Oregon continued their impressive season with a 31-7 win over their in-state rival, Oregon State. With the win, Oregon clinched their spot in the Pac-12 Championship. They have won 11 games and have just one loss. They will get a chance to avenge their loss against Washington in the Pac-12 Championship.

Washington had already qualified for the Pac-12 Championship Game. In week 13, they defeated Washington State in a very close game. The Huskies have struggled to put a full game together in a few weeks, so they could be vulnerable in the rematch with Oregon, even after winning last time around.

2. Michigan Doesn’t Need Sign Stealing

Michigan has had plenty of distractions through the last several weeks of the season. Jim Harbaugh was suspended by the Big Ten for the last three regular season games due to the sign-stealing investigation. They had some tough games leading up to their regular season finale against Ohio State, which put the game in doubt.

The Wolverines were able to get the win 30-24 without Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines. They were able to play good defense and run the football. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy was efficient and protected the football. Now the Wolverines get Harbaugh back and are heading to the Big Ten Championship against Iowa with a shot to lock in their spot for the College Football Playoff.

3. Florida State Might be in Some Trouble

Florida State won their game in week 13 against Florida 24-15. They completed an undefeated regular season and are headed to the ACC Championship Game. If they win that, they are likely headed to the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, things don’t look great at the moment despite that.

Starting quarterback Jordan Travis went out with an injury in week 12. Tate Rodemaker filled in and got the team the win over North Alabama. In week 13, he was able to get the team the win, but it looked sloppy. He finished the game with 134 yards on 12/25 passing. He will have to step his game up against Louisville in the ACC Championship Game to get the win and send the Seminoles to the CFP.

4. Rivalry Week is Tough For Everyone

This is something that college football diehards already know, but it reaffirmed itself in week 13. Rivalry week creates some tough games and things happen even when it doesn’t seem like a probable scenario. Kentucky had lost five of their last six games and were able to upset Louisville, ending their slight hope of making the CFP. Iowa State beat Kansas State for the only other upset of a top 25 team by an unranked team, but there were other close games.

Alabama needed a conversion on a 4th and goal from 31 yards out to beat Auburn. Georgia defeated Georgia Tech by one possession. Washington struggled with Washington State. Ole Miss won a sloppy game over Mississippi State. Iowa won their rivalry with Nebraska by five points. While it didn’t all lead to upsets there were some great games that shows how tough rivalry week can be.

5. Ryan Day is on the Hot Seat

The coaching carousel is already heating up. After their loss to Michigan this week, Ryan Day is firmly on the hot seat, whether it is right or wrong. He has lost three straight to Michigan. Last season, the Buckeyes were able to make the CFP even with a loss to the Wolverines. They lost to Georgia in the semifinal, but it doesn’t seem like there is a path back this season.

What makes the situation unique is that Ryan Day has one of the highest winning percentages in college football history. He is 56-7 as a head coach at Ohio State, but he is losing the most important game on the schedule. Will Ohio State fire him right now? Probably not. Heading into next season though, there will be a lot of pressure on Day from the fanbase.
