3 Death Decks to Try Out in Marvel Snap

Date:

Meet Death: one of the most unique build-around cards in Marvel Snap. Death is the only card that has a energy cost above six, making it impossible to play on its own. However with her ability to reduce her cost she can come down suddenly as a zero-cost 12-power threat. Players will most likely open her in a Collector’s Box, but it can be tough to find the right home for such a weird card. There are a few decks that players have enjoyed using so far and here are just a few example lists for those looking for inspiration.

Budget Death

Deck List: Deadpool, The Hood, Squirrel Girl, Nova, Bucky Barnes, Wolverine, Carnage, Deathlok, Killmonger, Sabretooth, Moon Girl, Death

Pros:
– Very Budget Friendly
– Fun introduction to Destroy decks

Cons:
– Hard to win through Armor
– Overall low amount of power without Death

Welcome to “newbies first Destroy deck”. This deck is filled with cards players will acquire simply through playing the game, making it a perfect budget option for free-to-play players. For those unfamiliar with the archetype, Destroy decks aim to play cards that benefit from being removed from play. Cards like Nova and Bucky Barnes are designed to be destroyed in order to gain a greater benefit. Then cards like Carnage and Deathlok are here to help reach that goal.

Death needs a bunch of things to, you know, die in order to get her onto the field. Squirrel Girl and Killmonger are the one-two combo that help reduce Death’s playing cost to something more reasonable. With the recent Wolverine buff, the iconic X-Men character does quite a work in this list as well. In some situations, Moon Girl will actually be able to double up Death, giving you 24 power for zero energy. Seems pretty good to me.

Galac-Death

Deck List: Ebony Maw, Psylocke, Green Goblin, Wolverine, Killmonger, Electro, Wave, Hobgoblin, Death, Galactus, Knull

Pros:
– Massive late turn power swing
– Can grant “free wins”

Cons:
– People will often retreat before you earn four cubes
– Will randomly lose to Central Park and Debrii

Most players might not have Galactus, or Knull or even Eelectro, but this list is quite the trip. When Galactus comes down, each other location and creature are destroyed. This is great news for this list, as it allows Death to come down for free the turn after Galactus in order to secure the win. Knull can come down as well, just for a little bit of overkill.

The rest of this list are all support pieces to ensure your opponent has a rough time building their game plan. The Goblin brothers play a key role to make sure the opponent’s location has low power when you eventually place Galactus at the same spot. Electro and Psylocke are the key ramp spells that let you cheat out the top-end cards a bit earlier than the opponent expects – same reason we play Wave in this list.

The annoying part of trying to slam down Galactus is when things outside of your control warp the board. Killmonger is the key card hard as it cleans up the board to allow Galactus to do his thing.

Death Wave

Deck List: The Hood, Squirrel Girl, Yondu, Nova, Bucky Barnes, Carnage, Deathlok, Killmonger, Wave, Aero, She-Hulk, Death

Pros:
– Alternate win-con outside of Death
– You get to play Aero

Cons:
– Without Wave, is a bit clunky
– Sometimes feels like a budget deck

And right back it again with another more classic-style Death deck, but this time with another big threat to help out in some late game situations. She-Hulk is an interesting card that also reduces her cost based on how you play your turns. Because Wave changes the cost of each card, that means both She-Hulk and Death are able to reduce their cost even further thanks to their own abilities. This line of play often allows players to play two free 10+ power cards to end the game.

The rest of the deck plays a bit of the same as the budget list – play things that you want to destroy, then destroy. This version is a fun twist on the budget option, as it lets you play some more interesting cards. Though it could feel at times like you are playing a stock list if you don’t find She-Hulk.
